On Thurs. September 10th, The Playhouse is joining forces with the Surfrider Foundation ahead of its annual fundraiser on 9/12 to celebrate the art and culture of surfing across the East End of Long Island and beyond. This special event welcomes our vibrant community of surfers and music fans by taking a closer look at the career of an artist who embodies both of those passions: Jack Johnson.

We'll be screening his new documentary SURFILMUSIC, which traces how his love of surf from a young age led him to a long, prosperous creative life based on his lived experience and the friendships he made along the way. The Playhouse was pleased to welcome legendary filmmaker Paul Schrader to celebrate the 50th anniversary of TAXI DRIVER, the screenplay that put him on the map. Before the film, Schrader and others posed for photos in front of a vintage checker cab brought by Larry and Barbara Kiss. The film screened on an original 35mm release print and Schrader joined for a Q&A after the screening. The full conversation is now available on our YouTube channel. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this sold-out screening!
