Happy Independence Day. If you’re at the duck park, please be aware there are some late season waterfowl babies. 🐣🦆🪿 Please be respectful and keep your distance. The parents are in super protective mode. Do not feed, chase or try to touch. (You wouldn’t let strangers chase or want to touch your babies ….. ). Thank you for your consideration and respect. Nature isn’t ours to play with. (Plus it’s illegal)

Did you know 4th of July is the WORST time of the year for Lost Dogs! They panic, escape, get lost, and often hit, injured or killed by cars.

They break out of fencing, jump through windows and even off 2nd story balconies. Many new adopters have no idea how their dog (or cat) will react to fireworks so you should assume and prepare for the worst. Start by having collars with tags and contact info on your dogs!

Get a cheap collar at the dollar store! Grab a sharpie and write your number on the collar if you don't have a tag!

A simple collar and phone number can also save you $$ in reclaim fees from the shelter (if you are in a shelter area) but most important it will help get your dog or cat returned to you quicker if found!

Don't let your dog become a statistic. Keep them safe!

For those with dogs that are not bothered by fireworks, you are very lucky and this message is not for you but could help someone else you know.

☎️ Dear Ventura County… our dispatchers have a tiny favor to ask this Fourth of July. 🇺🇸🎆

We love hearing from our community… but we’d love it even more if 911 was reserved for real emergencies.

Every Fourth of July, our dispatch center is flooded with calls about fireworks, loud booms, and “my neighbor is setting them off again.”

While we understand the frustration, every non-emergency call ties up a dispatcher who could be helping someone experiencing a fire, serious injury, crime in progress, or another life-threatening emergency.

Before you dial, ask yourself:
🚨 Is someone in immediate danger?
🚨 Is there an active fire or crime happening right now?
🚨 Does someone need police, fire, or medical assistance immediately?

If the answer is no, please use our non-emergency line at 805-654-9511.

DOG DAYS are upon us! The countdown has begun to the 4th of July! Our busiest day and weekend of the year for lost dogs. Many of you have already experienced memorial day fireworks in your areas and we are already seeing lots of dogs lose. Plus many cities are doing Fireworks on the 3rd!

NOW is the time to do your part!
NOW is the time to get those collars on!
NOW is the time to get your tags on with current numbers!
NOW is the time to get your microchips updated.

CHECK all your gate locks and fencing now to make sure they are secure as even the dogs who normally won't jump, dig or climb or leave a back yard, WILL TRY TO GET OUT during fireworks if left with access to the yard.

Also, call in your prescriptions soon for meds if thats what your dog needs during the night of the 3rd or 4th. Make sure your RELIABLE dog sitters are dialed in if you are going to need one.

For those of you with local missing pet/lost pet pages in your cities, please be sure to contact those pages directly with any lost or found dogs the day and night of the 4th that you may find. This will help owners and rescuers and the shelters.

The shelter intakes and resources will be MAXED! Anything you can do to help a found dog by posting them on a missing pet page, getting them scanned for a chip, putting up a hand written found flyer in the area and holding onto them for a bit would help the Shelters, help the Dogs and the Search and Rescue Teams. Hi all - Someone posted about this goose on another community forum page. We want to let everyone know this goose has a permanent disability, but is otherwise fine and healthy. As a gosling, it had a fishing hook stuck in its foot which caused permanent injury. But it can fly and swim and is perfectly healthy otherwise. The volunteers have been watching this goose since it was a baby. It's nickname is Clubman.

Several geese at the pond have permanent disablements to feet, legs, &/or wings mainly from fishing line, hooks, etc. or being fed too much bread and other crap food. Or at the hands of humans chasing, throwing things, trying to grab or dogs being allowed to chase birds.

However, if you see any wild waterfowl injured or in distress, and suffering, immediately contact one of the wildlife organizations (link at top of this page) or send a message to this page and we can refer you to the list. For domestic waterfowl, please send a message to this page and the volunteers will intervene.

We are always happy to see people enjoying the pond and fishing is obviously a well-loved past time. However, please let all your fishing friends know to be respectful of the wildlife and please clean up their fishing line, hooks, and other trash.

The volunteers as well as the park mtce. crews are constantly finding and picking up discarded line, hooks, etc. The volunteers are also constantly trying to remove fishing line off the waterfowl when we're able, which is no easy feat. Fishing line tightens around their limbs cutting off circulation, and if not cut off quickly, the goose will lose their foot / leg.

We love that so many people enjoy the park and the pond, but know and respect it's also home to the wildlife. The volunteers thank you!
