WARRI PROVINCE IS NOT WARRI KINGDOM
The colonial government used “Warri Province” as an administrative name for a large area containing several different peoples. It did not mean that the entire province was the traditional kingdom of the Olu of Warri. In fact, contemporary historical discussions specifically note that the province extended far into the hinterland and contained several ethnic groups such as Urhobo, Ijaw, Isoko, Ndokwa/Kwale and the Aboh people.
