The Environmental Film Festival brings compelling and important films to the Tampa Bay area and the Eckerd College community in order to raise awareness and promote discussion of questions relating to nature, place, and the environment. Each year, organizers bring film scholars and filmmakers from around the world to engage the audience in lively discussions of the environmental perspectives conta

ined in documentary, animated, experimental and feature films. The Environmental Film Festival is coordinated by Nathan Andersen, Associate Professor of Philosophy, and Catherine Griggs, Associate Professor of American Studies. The lineup for the 2024 "Visions of Nature/Voices of Nature" Environmental Film Festival has been announced! Our website www.environmentalfilmfest.com will be updated soon, but in the meantime, here are a few things to look forward to during the opening weekend of the festival:

Thursday, Feb. 22 - the festival begins at 7pm in the Miller Auditorium of Eckerd College with a short film about fungi and films by current and former Eckerd College students about birds.

Friday, Feb. 23 - a screening of Animal Kingdom, a French film about a world in which people are slowly turning into animals

Saturday, Feb. 24 - a screening of Hollow Tree, a documentary about three teenagers coming of age in Louisiana, exploring their perspectives on climate change. Its director, Kira Akerman, and one of the young women from the film will be here with us to lead a discussion.

The dates for the 2024 "Visions of Nature/Voices of Nature" Environmental Film Festival will be:

Feb 22-4, & Feb. 27-March 2 (all 7pm to roughly 9:30pm)

The actual lineup won't be announced until likely the end of January, or the first week in February, 2024. Stay tuned!
