I have been highlighting some of the treasures at The Vogue Theatre lately as we work on bringing it back, but I will never take for granted the everyday details at Roslyn Theatre.
Behind the curtain and in the projection room, there’s the director’s chair that has been there for decades, original reels, s**g carpet, thick old curtains, and a yellowed reminder list from projectionists past. The tin ceilings and all the little openings in the balcony, left over from different projectors over the years, tell their own stories.
Then there are the details that make it special today: being able to hear the movie better if you need it, the rounded little hobbit door, the moon and stars, the lovely coaster by Kathleen Michael that Dee Rush gave us, the coasters and lobby table handmade by AbourezkHandmade, and the other gorgeous lobby furniture by Urban Interiors , the homemade spinning film reel spice holder, the Superman 2 poster, the gorgeous handmade reel lights and….the two different framed Top Gun Maverick posters.
These posters are framed not because I have an affection for Tom Cruise (firmly in Keanu camp here), but because they hold a piece of history here. This theatre was closed down when we purchased it and there was a single poster out in the marquee. It was the coming June 2020 original design for the Top Gun Maverick poster which we all know didn’t happen because everything shut down. When we purchased the movie theatre the first movie we played was Too Gun Maverick and the poster they sent us is now also the other framed one on the wall. It felt appropriate to frame them both as part of our story here.
Thank you for being part of our story. 🎥🍿⭐️❤️ also: dippin dots are refilled.
