Three Black Men with Dr. Resmaa Menakem on 10.24 at 2pm

Presented by The Good Work Institute

Three Black Men is a feature documentary that follows visionaries Resmaa Menakem, Bayo Akomolafe, and Orland Bishop as they trace the transatlantic slave route in reverse.

Their epic voyage takes them from Los Angeles to Salvador da Bahia in Brazil, and finally to Accra in Ghana. These destinations hold crucial pieces of Black history and representations of the forced migration, survival and demise of the millions who crossed the Atlantic.

Following the screening, Resmaa will be joined by Repa Mekha for a discussion about the film.

About The Descent:

💿40 Watts from Nowhere plays as part of our Music Fan Film Series on October 21

🎧Frustrated by what she was hearing on commercial radio, Sue Carpenter built a 40-watt FM station in 1995 and ran it out of her apartment in Los Angeles, exploiting a legal case that allowed hundreds of low-power illegal radio operators to proliferate throughout the country and gave birth to the legal LPFM movement. Carpenter was 28 years old, a secretary and an aspiring journalist when she first set up KBLT and invited strangers into her house to spin whatever the hell they wanted. It soon took on a life of its own, drawing Mazzy Star to headline a benefit concert and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to play live in her living room.
