Stash? Trash? or Ca$h? When organizing and clearing out the clutter from your home it’s daunting to make decisions without a little help from a person who has no personal attachments to your stuff. What you want to keep ( stash ) , what you need to get rid of ( trash ) , and lastly what you can make money on ( cash ) .
I had the pleasure of helping my friend and client Julie Broderick make these difficult choices and she really rocked it. At my insistence she tried on every piece of clothing in her wardrobe and we were able to clean out about 35 % of it ( a true friend will give you an honest opinion ) . We used the empty boxes to decorate the closet as we now had free space! This part was easy as Julie and I are so much alike ; right down to our name . She was so diligent in this assignment she tried on virtually everything including her pajamas and shoes ! In fact she did such an excellent job that we took the job a step further and I provided my personal shopper service to find her more pieces , and they all fit her perfectly!
Together we made decisions on what to donate and what to sell; ( her beautiful items including Christian Louboutin, , Manola Blahnik , Dooney & Bourke, Hermès, and Coach ) to name a few will soon be available for purchase in my Poshmark closet , and on a new edition of my Facebook Live video , “Fab-U-Less Finds”.
Our next task was to conquer her ultimate jewelry collection . I am returning home with the motherload of sterling silver Silpada jewelry as well as many fine costume and vintage pieces.
We moved on to the bathrooms and threw out old makeup, expired medications, old products , and several other categories of items. This created an organized, cohesive space with room to spare, and because she had multiples her two guest bathrooms are now equipped with hairdryers, curling irons , styling products , and amenities for her many guests!
In addition we cleared out and organized all her drawers in the house . There are dedicated spaces for “junk” , batteries, keys , lingerie, and her bedside tables are free of miscellaneous clutter. Everything in the kitchen was placed where Julie can easily access the items she uses daily .
Her beautiful bedroom was lacking bedding to match the Hollywood Glam showpiece of a headboard. By chance I mentioned I had an elegant silver and gold set to sell and I thought it would look great in there. By this time we had extended my stay from one week into two and my sweet boyfriend drove from Raleigh to help me take all the loot home to sell and brought the bedding for Julie . We made up the bed with the new bedding and it was absolutely perfect . Later I was able to find a few throw pillows that really completed the look.
Having moved into the home recently there was a lot of paperwork from her businesses and although this is a project she will continue on her own, we sorted through it and categorized so this project will not be too overwhelming. I will be pestering her to make sure she’s working on it!
We had a blast! It was a working vacation for me and an experience like no other. We actually met through Poshmark. Julie was my best customer and when I had something I thought she would like I would contact her by text. Then we started talking on the phone and were amazed at all the things we have in common. She said she needed help organizing her closet and home so we decided I would fly down to do the job! When I saw her for the first time it was like we had known each other forever. We had so much fun and were getting so much done that we extended my initial one week trip into 19 days!
She also turned me on to some awesome products and a clothing line I had never heard of so if anyone wants to know more about those I’m happy to share.
I’m home now sorting through all the clothes, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and other goodies. They will soon be available for purchase in my Poshmark closet and I am planning on doing a new episode of “Fab-U-Less Finds”, a Facebook live video where you can purchase the items.
