TRACKSIDE TUESDAY: TOO CLOSE TO CALL
A nose. A head. A fraction of a second. Sometimes, that’s all that separates first place from second.
When horses cross the finish line nearly together, officials turn to the photo finish camera. Unlike a regular camera that captures a single moment, a photo finish camera records the finish line continuously, creating a precise image of exactly when each horse reaches the wire. Winners aren’t decided by who looks ahead in the final stride or whose jockey crosses first. It’s the horse whose nose reaches the finish line first. At the track, every inch counts.
Have you ever witnessed a photo finish at the Crooked River Roundup?
