Well, I guess by now everyone has heard the news… I haven’t cried one tear since I closed the doors… I’m a pick myself up, dust myself off and start a new kind of girl… That is pretty much what I’ve done… I signed my papers today and went straight to see Mike Cherry… No matter who was in charge, Mike and I were partners… He needed to hear it from me… Maybe now I won’t feel so ashamed when I see him and I will have more confidence to spend time with him… I was fine when I left the Cherry’s home… Then I kept feeling this stab going through my heart though… I said it couldn’t be the theater, I’ve been fine for 2 years now… I wondered if, in the back of my mind I wished I’d win the lottery and then once again get a chance to pop popcorn for my community… Then, out of the blue I found myself in my sweet husband’s arms crying, realizing it could only be the theater… Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy for the new owners!!! I’m so happy that someone will breath new life into this community!!! I am thankful and praiseful!!! I think it’s just the thought of any new memories I will make there will be, as a guest… I want to thank every employee who has changed me in some way… Every customer that made my head swell with pride when their eyes would roll in the back of their heads with the first bite of popcorn (of course it was always at the register, people just couldn’t wait)… The patience of my banker whom has never been anything but supportive and understanding!!! My community for always being there… Always… and my family… they are the ones who sacrificed the most… I missed so many things of them growing up to just spend my time mopping floors… Which I was happy to do for my customers… Quentin, Emily, Aisha and Kendall, I don’t know what to say except thank you… You four people, even when they were babies, were always there for me when I needed you… Girls, y’all had to start working way to young to spend time with me… Quentin, you NEVER even flinched when I asked you to buy me a movie theater… Y’all are the real stars!!! So, my last post as a movie theater owner comes to an end, I wish the new owners the best and know that whatever you decide to do with it, you have my support!!! Thank you all!!!! Your love has been felt!!!

This was my first Thanksgiving off in 24 years... Thanksgiving and the following weekend was one of our busiest days of the year... I would spend too much time preparing for the crowds... I would triple clean and mop... I would check the popcorn machine and make sure everything was in working order and over stock the candy... Test run the films way too many times to make sure no issues would arise... Every customer would walk up and order too much and say “I don’t know how I can be hungry after everything I ate today, but there is always room for popcorn”... There would always be several new movies out, Mr Cherry and I would discuss for weeks on which film to show in cinema 1 and convenient times to show movies without inturrupting your plans... Parents would drop off their kids for a show just in time to hit Walmart for Black Friday deals... Grandparents bringing their grand babies to show off their little theater and give mom and dad a rest... The room was always filled with love on days like today, everyone in good spirits, customers and employees with joy in their hearts... Seeing people I’ve not seen since previous Thanksgiving... I would always wonder if Dr Settle was bringing his grandkids this year and also hope I was making his father proud... I would trade this day off in a heartbeat to do it one last time... To share one more holiday season with all of you... To hand you popcorn one more time... To be able to say “enjoy the show” with my heart full of excitement for what ever film you’d be there for... I miss it, I miss our customers, I miss popcorn, I even miss mopping... I miss it all... Today hit me the hardest as I’m sitting here bored wishing I had someplace to go sit and watch a movie or even just the joy of watching y’all go to the movies...
I am thankful for my new job, I am thankful I still get to serve you in other ways, I am thankful for my family and grandson on the way... I am thankful for a million things and I try every day for that to reflect and not the things lost... Today, for me, was the day though... In midst of bites taken, laughs made and hugs given... I felt a little sadness in between each one... Many blessings to everyone during this strange holiday season!!! Prayers and sympathies to the families of the ones we’ve lost... Much love to all and happy holidays from our home to yours!!!
