𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: This inventive and whip-smart sci-fi satire, courtesy of genre master John Carpenter, is the pitch-perfect take down of ‘80s consumerism. A drifter (played by pro wrestler Roddy Piper), discovers a plot by alien invaders to enslave the American masses via subliminal messaging. Aided by a special pair of sunglasses, our hero must expose the conspiracy before it’s too late. As relevant today as it was four decades ago, the film also stars Keith David, who goes toe to toe with Piper in one of cinema’s greatest fight scenes.

A quiet suburban neighborhood is disrupted when two young brothers stop speaking in protest over their parents’ refusal to buy a television set. Directed by Yasujirō Ozu, GOOD MORNING gently observes the rhythms of daily life, where gossip, misunderstandings and small social rituals reveal deeper currents of desire and conformity. With its precise framing and understated humor, the film is one of Ozu’s absolute best and offers a warmly ironic portrait of postwar Japan. In Japanese w/ subtitles.

Often compared to Douglas Sirk, Teuvo Tulio is known for his unrestrained melodramas that showcase powerful, borderline-camp performances from its female leads, and RESTLESS BLOOD is no exception. Tulio’s muse, Regina Linnanheimo, stars as Sylivi, a woman whose marriage is on the rocks after she loses her sight. Her younger sister has ulterior motives when she moves into the family home and moves in on her sister’s husband, pursuing the affair right under Sylivi’s nose. You won’t be able to take your eyes off of this captivating tale featuring bold German Expressionist-inspired shots, stunning ‘40s era fashion and drop-dead-gorgeous black-and-white cinematography.

We have partnered with our friends from Princeton University Art Museum to bring the 1991 Denzel Washington classic MISSISSIPPI MASALA to our big screen on October 14th! Rachael Z. DeLue, director of the Princeton Humanities Initiative will join us in-person to introduce the movie. A landmark work of Iranian cinema, Abbas Kiarostami’s fascinating documentary-fiction hybrid opens our 2026 Garden Goes Global weekend of international films. Based on a real-life trial, the film reenacts an incident of a man who is arrested for assuming the identity of a famous Iranian filmmaker. Exploring themes of cinema, truth and storytelling, this film is one of Kiarostami’s finest achievements and is a profoundly moving meditation on the human desire to be seen.
