nternational Designer JOHN ABLAZA
John Ablaza is a Manila-based fashion designer whose awe-inspiring collections hit the runways of Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Bahrain, Sydney and Toronto. A known fashion icon in the Philippine fashion industry, John Ablaza created a name for himself when he was nominated to create a replica of Philippine’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s wardrobe in time for the Centennial Celebration of Philippine independence in 1998. From then on, his Rizal collection has become prominent and traveled all over the Philippines and other parts of the world in countries and cities across North America and Europe. A known icon in the Philippine fashion industry, he was commissioned by the National Centennial Commission in 1998 to recreate a replica of the clothes of Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines, in conjunction with the centennial celebration of the death of Jose Rizal. His works then travelled throughout the Philippines and to several cities in Europe. In 2012, he designed the wardrobe of Jose Rizal in the documentary film, The First Hero,” which had its worldwide premiere in Toronto in June 2013. Also in 2012, he designed the wardrobe for an upcoming movie about the life of Saint Pedro Calungsod of Cebu, who was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in Vatican City on October 21, 2012. In 2012, he wrote “Ramp Diva Filipina,” a coffee table book chronicling the experience of stunning models who left an indelible mark in the Philippine modeling industry from the late 1970’s to 2000.
