Park Theater MN A big screen in a small town since 1939

New movies are cool, but have you ever seen old movies?
Have you seen WINGS OF DESIRE from 1987?
It’s a film that could have only been made in its place and time in history. Yet modern films are still influenced by it, like Spielberg’s DISCLOSURE DAY (2026), and BLACK PHONE 2 (2025). Some even borrow directly from it, such as THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU (2011), or DOCTOR STRANGE (2016).

Every cinephile should see MINIONS & MONSTERS! The whole experience is like a candy-coating Criterion Collection. It’s a surprising love letter to cinema’s silent era and the classics, chock full of references to film greats like Méliès, Chaplin, & Keaton. Director, and voice of all the Minions, Pierre Coffin crafted this homage to a century of screwball comedy for TCM-loving adults as much as for their kids. And it’s ultimately a film about filmmaking, like a goofy THE ARTIST (2011) or SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952) - but yes, with some monsters.

Here’s just tiny sample of the hundreds of references to classic cinema:

• A Trip to the Moon (1902)• The Great Dictator (1940)• Keystone Cops (1912-1917)• Safety Last! (1923)

• What’s Up, Doc? (1972)• Modern Times (1932)• Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928)

And that’s only in the first 20 minutes!

3 bears food truck is donating 20% of their profits this Thursday during Second Street Stage to help us continue to fundraise to pay for the server that we had to replace. We've raised about 64% of what we need (and we're so grateful for the support) - anyone want to have some yummy food to help us get to 100%??

Come support local businesses. If you didn’t hear park theater in park rapids had a break down. There projector server broke down. It was over $12,00.00 for a new one. As new young business owners let’s help them on their last leg to finish paying for this unexpected expense! For me I love theaters and we need them to stay around!! They have a lot going on. 20% of ALL SALES will go to them and we will have a donation bucket also! SUPPORT LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS!!

New server installed: first crisis (Technical) defeated! THANK YOU to everyone who helped us raise 63% of these costs so far. The next crisis (Financial) will arrive soon, when Accounts Payable gets an invoice.

Please continue to spread the word that any little bit helps us to keep offering new-release and classic film programming in our unique location. Thank you, again, to all our supporters!

Donations of any amount can be given at ParkTheater.MN/donate

Sure, celluloid film projectors broke down all the time, but a good mechanic could keep fixing them for like 75 years, y’know? But thank you for your 15 years of service, Series 1 digital server. Hope you enjoy your green-halo’d retirement.

When it’s industry-super-specific equipment failure, it’s never cheap. Our system tonight suddenly decided to let us know that future operation of one of our projectors and its media server require a replacement computer, so that’s a sudden $12K expense.
Please donate if you can to help us cover these costs just so we can stay operational this summer.
