Designed by architect Alexander Aimwell Cantin for Donald Rheem in 1941 in a "Modern Baroque" streamline style, the Orinda Theatre has entertained the region and made memories for 84 years. Slated for demolition in 1984, it was saved through the efforts of preservationists and reopened in 1989, when 2 additional screens were added. The original lobby and main theatre were left intact.
