This was not done by us, it was done by the owner. In fact, we found out about this through the newspaper after it was done WHILE work was taking place on the property to try and open it.

Buckeye Barn Salvage buys Sunset Drive- In property outside Ontario; Shelby native Joe Lykins is expanding his business at 4018 Ohio 309.

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to add some information. We do have a digital projector on its way from California. Thats wonderful news in proceeding with opening of the Drive Inn.

At the end of the season last year, we had a wind gust of about 110 mph hit around 11/05/2017.

We have lost about 50 feet plus of the 14 foot high fencing that blocked out the Roadhouse neon lighting. We are need of some equipment to remove the 7 concrete bases that are buried 3 feet down. They can then be replaced. The material will run approx. $240 for steel. Plus we will need assitance in welding plates to the new poles and replacing the cement.

Other good news. We have secured a double bucket lift truck to allow the power washing and painting of the exterior screen. Paint has been purchased. Awaiting for weather conditions to turn favorable to proceed with repairs. Lift is $150/day.

We also lost our marquee. Approx cost, $275 for repairs. Our core Sunset sign has seen its better days. Panels that are 4 x 8 stainless steel are approx $15 each. Need 78 feet coverage plus paint.

Richland County Health Department has asked that Thermal Couplers be added to all sinks to being up to 2011 codes to prevent scaulding. Approx cost $450. Also they would like to have 8 toilets replaced with split seating and elongated at $140 each. Approx cost $1200.

Springfield Township fire department has asked that new fire exits and extinguishers be replaced. Approx cost. $500.

We would like to replace field, external screen, concession, intermission and enter / exit lighting with Solar Led or Led lighting. Approx cost. $640.

We have parking for 450 cars and could use help in repositioning and painting posts white. Approx. cost $400.

Our popcorn Popper has need of replacement. We have found 2. One in hillard. Cost $300. The other Cleveland. $900.

We are looking for two 8 foot or four 4 foot stainless steel tables to place equipment on top of. Approx. cost $480

The 200 feet of 14 foot high fence will need repainting at somepoint. We would like to see on the interior after painted. Areas where signs can be placed for donors and of past patrons of the Drive Inn.

Incredibles 2 is coming out in June and it would be awesome if folks could either donate time or money. We are going to print up 5000 flyers to handout and will be offering screen time advertising in a way to help lower startup costs. Ken, Abe, and myself have placed over 48k in efforts to restore this drive inn for the future generations.

We will be offering flea markets, car shows, Kid carnivals, and other wonderful things as time permits.

Please I am asking for a call to arms. Jump in help out. There is still life in this old girl. Just needs a little help to crank it back up. P.O. Box 3682, Mansfield Ohio 44907. We have over 8500 followers. Donations of 10 or up will help seal that this drive inn remains in everyones lives.

Thanks for reading. Hope to cyou soon. Mark 567 274 6248. P.o. box 3682 mansfield ohio 44907.

Hello all,

We would like to thank everyone for their support and interest about the Sunset Drive-In Theatre. With rumors flying, we would like to set the record straight as to what is happening currently.

Currently, we are working to repair and fix up the Drive-In from last year's storms. In doing so, we hope to re-make the Drive-In experience available again for a whole new generation.

If you would like to help or volunteer in the Drive-In's restoration, feel free to stop by Lazer Warz at the Richland Mall and let's talk.

If you have any questions, message us here and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported the Sunset Drive-In over the years and we will post more information soon about our progress and any upcoming events. M.

Other than the traditional new movies, what would you like to see take place out at the Sunset Drive Inn property? Share your ideas with us! Who knows, we may like it and ask you to help us do it! We're open to almost anything.

Hi everyone! I'm one of the guys involved in reopening the Sunset Drive Inn, so now some answers can be given.
No, it hasn't opened yet. We've had some setbacks, but we're still working diligently to get the drive inn open, even if it's only for a couple weeks this season. If not this season, then that should give plenty of time to get all the work done that needs to be done.
We've needed some help getting certain things done, and has taken longer than originally planned. We've been working inside the concession stand as well as the outside. Once finished, our guests will enjoy a newly cleaned screen that will hopefully be freshly painted as well (Weather permitting!!)

I've seen them working on it almost everyday that I drive by it. I have no answers as no one has said anything to me. I will admit I don't read inbox messages because I had no answers to give anyone. But if anyone has direct contact to the person working on revamping the place, tell them to contact me.

06/04/2016

I drive by it every day and am very sad to see it not open. As of this time I'm assuming it will not open this year folks. I have no answers for you all. It has been up for sale for quite a while. But I know nothing to that as well. I wish there was a way to get it marked as a historical spot (having been built in 1946). But again I wouldn't know how to go about that either. I AM NOT the owner. He lives in California, is 95 or so years of age.

03/16/2016

I haven't heard from the owner nor the person who manages the place. I have no answers at the current moment. I will post as soon as I have info!
