Window Covering Distributors, Inc. traces its roots back to the 1968, when William, known as Bill or Daddy Boo and Jean Davis purchased The House of Draperies on Roswell Road in Buckhead. As the business grew, they slowly added employees and expanded their product offerings to include wood blinds, shutters, and metal blinds, allowing them to serve a wider range of customers.
Recognizing a growing demand for roller shades, Bill established Window Covering Distributors, Inc. in 1973 and shifted the company’s focus toward wholesale fabrication. That same year, the business relocated to Chamblee. Around this time, their daughter Margaret began helping with the company at just 13 years old, filing paperwork and learning every aspect of the business. She continued working alongside her parents throughout high school and college, and later her husband joined the company as well.
Jean retired in 1988, followed by Bill in 1991, when Margaret took over leadership of the company. Building a business was never easy, and it took years of dedication, persistence, and hard work to grow Window Covering Distributors into what it is today. Over time, the company streamlined its focus and concentrated primarily on custom roller shade manufacturing.
Like many businesses, we faced significant challenges during the recession of 2008, but through determination and careful management, we emerged stronger than ever. Following her divorce, Margaret successfully operated the company on her own, continuing to guide it through both challenges and growth. In 2012, she achieved a major milestone by purchasing our own building in Norcross, Georgia. By then, the company had grown to eight employees, including her daughters, Anna and Katie McManus.
After moving into our new facility, we expanded our offerings once again, working toward becoming a one-stop shop for window coverings. We also entered the entertainment industry, supplying window treatments for movies, television productions, and commercials, such as Outer Banks, Fried Green Tomatoes, Stranger Things and Vampire Diaries. As our operations became more efficient and self-sufficient, the business continued to grow.
Today, we are proud to be entering a new chapter as the torch is passed to the next generation. Margaret’s daughters, Anna and Katie McManus, are helping lead the future of the company. Anna has already been recognized as one of WF VISION Magazine’s Top 40 Under 40 professionals to watch, and we are excited to see how the next generation will continue to build upon the legacy that Bill and Jean started more than 50 years ago.
Thank you to our customers, employees, partners, and friends who have been part of this incredible journey. We look forward to many more years of innovation, craftsmanship, and service.
