Canal Street holds a very special spot in New Orleans film history and no, we're not just talking about 😉. 623 Canal Street is the site of Vitascope Hall, America's very first permanent indoor movie theatre, which opened in August of 1896. Less than 20 years later, the Prytania Theatre opened its doors uptown! Check out these pictures of the historical marker at Vitascope Hall for a fascinating piece of local film history.
