Actor and Valley Stream native Steve Buscemi helped usher in the Malverne Cinema & Art Center’s next chapter Aug. 19, hosting a fundraiser and 30th-anniversary screening of “Trees Lounge” as the renovated theater prepares to reopen this fall.

Some may see two cans of paint but not us,
we see a true unsung hero of our mission. HUGE shoutout goes to Benny Montalbano of Elite Painting Services Plus for saving the day today. A simple text to Benny early this morning- 7 minutes later and a quick walk down the block I was able to not only get paint from him but truly be reminded of the good still in this world and supporting our mission. Every wall in the theater has been painted thanks for Benny and his crew but this side office mission (which originally was not meant to be worked on JUST yet) needed to be done and fast! What a morning!

Thanks Benny for helping color our world and make it a little brighter for everyone 🎨🖌️🫟

Founding Dreamers: Meeting #1 💙✨

Today was our very first Founding Dreamers Planning Committee meeting at The Malverne, and what a morning it was.

It was messy. It was sweaty. It was exciting. Most of all... it was magical.

Together we toured the theater, imagined what each space could become, shared our dreams for The Malverne, and started putting those dreams on paper through our planning committee worksheets. Every idea, every laugh, every question, and every conversation reminded us why we’re doing this.

This isn’t just about restoring a theater. It’s about building a place where everyone belongs—a place for movies, live performances, employment, creativity, friendships, and opportunities for our entire community.

Today wasn’t just a meeting. It was the beginning of something special.

To our Founding Dreamers: thank you for helping us dream big and build something that will make a difference for generations to come. We can’t wait to share this journey with all of you.
