Summer Cinema Series

Summer Cinema Series The Summer Cinema Series proudly presents vintage silent films throughout the summer accompanied live on a Theatre Pipe Organ - as it was in the 1920's.

Summer Cinema 2016, produced through a partnership between MSUM School of Media Arts & Design and the Red River Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society (RRATOS), features retrospective showings of some of Hollywood’s greatest stars in their best-loved and most popular motion pictures, as well as rare, seldom-seen and “lost” films. The “silents” are accompanied LIVE on an authentic Theatre Pi

pe Organ by Red River Chapter members of the American Theatre Organ Society (chartered in the FM area in 1965). RRATOS owns the organ (on permanent loan to MSUM) and maintains it. It is one of five theater pipe organs installed at colleges and universities in the nation. Chapter members perform pre-show music and scores for the silent films. In the tradition of Hollywood past, each of our vintage movie programs will be preceded by a short subject film. Each program runs about two hours. Following our final showing, treats will be served in the hallway. Film titles are subject to change without notice. Introductions to the films are provided by faculty
members of MSUM, the University of North
Dakota, and FM area film enthusiasts.
