My friends and colleagues always ask me how I spend my time in the retirement and my answer always is "keep creating record of what I have done". Most of them do not understand what that means.

In olden days creating record was always write and preserve - whether it is in a form of document or a book. I modern days it is always on line - Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and so on. Most of my friends answer to that "Oh I do not use it" as if if you are on it then it bites you.

Then the young generation create something new (that's what they think) and claim that it has been done the first time, my friends who were involved doing the same thing 40 years ago, get angry and say "How can they claim like that?" The reason the young generation does it is simple - they do not find any record on line.

Recently, one California entity claimed that their Marathi Film Festival was the first of its kind. 40 years ago, my friend had done it the same and even on a larger scale. After his passing, I told his family that to keep his legacy alive you will have to beat your own drums. But they are all "busy" and did not do it. Now suddenly the family is mad about the claim of being done the first time.

So the lesson is if you do not want other people to take credit of what you have already done, go on line and create a record.

After seeing the posts about the film festival, I have also realized that I need to create a record about being the first to start Marathi film screenings in North America in 1993 with the film "Lapandav".
