Questions were recently asked about the Historic Momence Theater. Basically the status of the restoration and my plans for the venue. Ideally, I would like to see someone acquire the bar/restaurant next door from Anne and the theater as a package. Together you would have a liquor license, a kitchen and a federal brewery license. There are currently only two other breweries in the county. You would also have a potential arts & entertainment/wedding venue which could hold a theater/music event up to 300 people or a sit down dinner event of 150. You would create a destination place, a local gathering place and have one of the larger multi-use venues in the county. There was a plan commissioned by the city a few years back outlining the reopening of the theater as making a major impact on the revitalization of historic downtown Momence. A short history, the theater was built in 1924 as a vaudeville theater. The buildings next door that house the bar and restaurant were built earlier. All the buildings have maintained their historic charm. The bar/restaurant has been operational for 18 years. The theater has been under restoration since 2013. Upgrades include new ADA bathrooms and accessibility, heat, plumbing, electric and more. If someone was interested in purchasing the theater or it all as a package, I would be willing to price it, so that the person or group would still have capital left to finish the theater restoration.

The Momence Theater after the holidays will be going out to bid for the remaining work that needs to be done. This will include some roofing, drywall, painting, air conditioning, framing and flooring. We are registered with the county for community service hours and would be willing to do a combination of both hours and pay. We will be looking for at least three bids on all projects. If you are interested in bidding, please contact Keri Perkins @ 815-472-6007.

THEATER UPDATE: Electrical passed inspection, so we can now put the drywall up in the bathrooms and then install the plumbing fixtures. Just need someone to hang drywall and then install the plumbing fixtures.

The rough plumbing was the hard part and was the big problem a year ago. It has all passed inspection. We have all the plumbing fixtures to complete the ADA bathrooms. Repairs where done to all the boxes that lead into the gutters and the brickwork around them. We also covered them with chicken wire, as we found a soccer ball clogging one and a Frisbee the other. This caused the water to backup up and hold in the valleys of the roof. The two estimates I received on the roof from local licensed roofers were, $3500 and $3600.

All the Tiffany brick work is done along the walls and the stage front.

I'm hoping to find someone who needs community service hours to hang the drywall. The plumbing fixtures have to be installed by a licensed plumber under a licensed plumbing contractor. After that we could technically have a soft opening.

There are still things like painting the back wall, carpet and the original entrance way off Dixie needs painting and we need an outdoor sign. None of these would stop us from opening.

Another step farther in the Momence Theater. The bottom right is the front of the stage when we started. Take a pile of Tiffany bricks, sort and clean them and then add a very talented brick layer and this is the finished product!

I feel like we are fighting a losing battle :( Someone stole the TVs and sound system from the Momence Theater :( For every step forward, there always seems to be a step back. Well it just got worse!! Since the building wasn't occupied, they only covered it for the actual building and liability, not contents :( If you find someone selling 32" Westinghouse TVs without the remote or bass, mids or tweeter speaker cabinets all same make, let me know please. The bottoms had 18" speakers, the mids had 12" speakers and the tweeters were horns.

Special thanks to Terri Oppenhuis Meyerberg for the very kind donation of original Tiffany brick. They will be used to complete the front of the stage :)
