Today, there are only around 283–300 still operating nationwide.

This past weekend, numerous independent movie theatres across the country closed their doors for good. 🎬💔

Rising operating costs, delayed studio releases, changing viewing habits, and shrinking margins have made the last few years especially tough for small, locally owned theatres and the industry as a whole is still operating well below pre-pandemic levels. These are places run by neighbors—not corporations—doing everything they can to keep the lights on and the projectors rolling.

If you love having a hometown theatre, now is the time to show that support. Come see a movie. Grab popcorn and concessions. Advertise your business on the big screen. Book a private rental, birthday party, or special event. Every sale truly matters.

This is a tough time for ALL local small businesses and we need your support.

Independent theatres survive because their communities choose them. Heading into what we hope with be a strong drive-in season in 2026 we thank you for supporting local, for showing up, and for helping ensure the magic of the movies continues right here at Van-Del Drive-In. ❤️🍿
