Memphis City Beautiful Memphis City Beautiful has worked since 1930 to keep Memphis clean, green, and beautiful.

The Memphis City Beautiful Commission, formed in 1930, is the oldest beautification commission in the United States. In 1930, our first job was to transform the then dismal and heavily trashed riverfront into a showplace for which Memphians could be proud. Five years later, in 1935, Riverside Drive was opened, and Memphis had a beautiful new "front door."

As students head back to school, Memphis City Beautiful is proud to partner with local schools to add fresh plantings and help create welcoming spaces for students, teachers, and families.

As part of the Division of Community Enhancement’s back-to-school efforts, departments across the Division have been working to enhance school surroundings and help create cleaner, more welcoming environments for the new school year.

We wish every student, teacher, administrator, staff member, and family a safe, successful, and inspiring school year. Here’s to learning, growing, and taking pride in our schools and our community.

Memphis City Beautiful is proud of the opportunity to partner with our local schools to add fresh plantings and beautify school grounds ahead of the new year. From colorful flower beds to shaded green spaces with creating and inviting attractive, environments where students feel welcomed and inspired from the moment they arrive. A beautiful setting sets the tone for a successful school year. So as a new school year begins, the Division of Community Enhancement, including Memphis City Beautiful, wishes every student, teacher, administrator, staff member, and family a safe, successful, and inspiring school year!

A new school year brings new opportunities to learn, grow, and make a positive impact. We encourage every student to work hard, be kind, and take pride in both your education and your community, because together we all play a part in keeping Memphis clean, welcoming, and beautiful.

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Jo Ann Street has passed away. Jo Ann was a passionate community advocate and volunteer who worked tirelessly to support Memphis City Beautiful programs and activities. Jo Ann especially loved her neighborhood parks, and she was a longtime participant in our Adopt A Park program, serving as an advocate for Hollywood, University, and Gooch Parks (HUG). She will be deeply missed!

On July 9, Memphis City Beautiful partnered with Urban Fellows for a successful community cleanup in the Orange Mound neighborhood. Under the leadership of Program Coordinator, Michelle Powell. More than 60 dedicated "Urbees" came together to beautify the community and demonstrate the power of collective service. Thank you to every volunteer who showed up ready to make an impact.
