So sue me, I mostly enjoyed the 5TH and FINAL SEASON of THE BOYS. Is it my least favorite? I'd have to do an entire rewatch but I can confidently say "probably." For me, was the series finale satisfactory with no glaring errors and the entire hour didn't feel rushed? Absolutely. If people expected Justice League or The Avengers level action scenes with a world ending threat, then they were already setting themselves up for failure. The Boys has always been a graphic novel series first and a tv show second. There's only so much you can do with both mediums that you will never get a budget to do Marvel or DC level destruction on the small screen. You have to find creative ways around it and I think showrunner Eric Kripke and co. did just exactly that, not just for this final season, but also for the other four that preceded it. While the series finale was very predictable and kept things mostly safe, all the character arcs were wrapped up in a very satisfying way. And I've read about the controversial ending of the graphic novel series...and suffice to say, I prefer what they did here. Ten-fold. Sure, some episodes of this final season were a little boring and should've had more 'umph' to them but none of them were outright horrible and some of them were absolute stand-outs. Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy being reunited with his Supernatural cast was not only my favorite episode of the season, but the entire series. Speaking of Mr. Ackles, if I do have a complaint within this final season, it's that Ackles' Soldier Boy wasn't in the final episode and how they wrapped up his arc was kind of like how you wrap up your food for leftovers at a restaurant...you should've eaten it all and not saved it for a possible stale sequel spin-off series. I'll leave it at that. But yeah, I love this show and since it didn't s**t the bed, I'm sure I will revisit it sometime down the line, maybe once Grayson is age appropriate to watch. Great performances, great stories and funny as f**k. I was constantly laughing my ass off. Can't be too greedy now, oi, you c***s!!! THE FINAL SEASON: 8.4 out of 10. THE BOYS: THE ENTIRE SERIES: 9.2 out of 10.

Yes, I know, hear me out first. Grayson wanted to go see MICHAEL with his friend since they listen to a lot of Jackson's music while playing videogames on their computers and since I would like to be around my son as much as possible at his age, I made the decision to go to a movie that I had once boycotted. Speaking of the boycott, someone told me that the movie doesn't quite get to the time of Michael's life where he may or may not have been...molesting children. My whole boycott was because I thought that the movie went from birth to death without even once bringing up the allegations that he may or may not have been a p**o. So I thought, well, if there is a sequel, and with those box office numbers the filmmakers would be stupid if there wasn't one, I'll make a judgement call at the time of release whether I need to boycott a movie about that part of Michael's life. But since we only got to the release of 'I'm Bad' in this film, I considered myself in the clear of people calling me a complete hypocrite. Also, don't worry, depending on how fast the sequel comes out and how much of those allegations are going to be put into that film, I will make a judgement call on whether or not I let Grayson see it (he turns 9 this September) and if I do, a possible talk beforehand with him on what he might witness being told about Mr. Jackson. Do I believe the allegations of child molesting against Michael Jackson? I honestly cannot say. That was at a time when there wasn't much social media so there were much less blatant cover-ups for the public to witness. I mean, who knows, the kids (along with their parents) making these allegations could've just been concocting a terrible plan to get Michael Jackson's money. I haven't seen, nor do I really want to see all the evidence. And since Michael Jackson has since passed away, we are likely to never know what really happened as I believe those files are permanently sealed and buried or they are no longer in existence. But you know what FU***NG FILES AREN'T QUITE BURIED? ALONG WITH THE MOST BLATANT PUBLIC COVER-UP I'VE EVER SEEN IN P**O ALLEGATIONS? I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with the last name of another monster: Harvey Weinstein. And it involves our CURRENT POTUS. How that s**t isn't a deal breaker for some of you MAGAts, I'll never understand.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a movie review right? HAHA. Michael is...okay, although I'm ultimately not giving it a recommendation, even though Jafar Jackson, Michael's real nephew, plays the iconic star to perfection and Colman Domingo is a dead ringer playing Michael's father. There is nothing wrong with any performances here, it's all just boring, cookie-cutter, by the books, musical biopic bulls**t. If you've seen one of these, you've seen them all. Only this time, since this movie is very obviously going to have a part II because the end credits tells us so, there is no fall from grace in this movie. That's the only thing it's missing, but everything else is the same. Unsupportive or over obsessed selfish parent? Check. Mental problems and growing up issues because of said parent? Check. Fantastic recreations of all the hits of the GOAT that you can now watch THE REAL PERSON do on YouTube as many times as you'd like? Double check. There is nothing new here. If I want to watch Thriller being performed around Halloween, I am going to watch Michael Jackson's music video of it. If I want to see him perform 'Beat It', 'Don't Stop Til' You Get Enough,' 'I'm Bad,' etc. etc. etc, I'd rather just watch the icon do it himself. Same with anything The Jackson 5 recorded. I don't need to see this fantastic stuff recreated when I still currently have access to the original recordings. For me, biopics are unnecessary (especially music ones) unless the main point of your project is to do something different with it, something that no one has tried before, such as making it relate directly to something that is going on in the world right now. Take Danny Boyle's 'Steve Jobs,' or James Mangold's 'A Complete Unknown." Those aren't your standard biopics and they were wonderful little pieces of cinema. The truth is, 'Michael' was going to make a ton of money no matter how bad this film turned out. It's Michael Jackson for Christ's sake. His music is legendary and he will live forever because of his music. He paved the way for black artists to get more representation within the industry. Everything about him is iconic. I hope the sequel does something different and maybe digs a little deeper into the latter half of his life, the troublesome period, but I doubt it. I don't think they want his reputation sullied, even though it seems like it's unavoidable. At least Part I wasn't horrible, but would I watch it again? Hee-Hee Hell no. 6.3 out of 10.

OBSESSION is horrifying...in the best way possible. Like Hokum from a few weeks ago, this movie will stay with you long past leaving the theater or after streaming it. It's so much more than just a take on 'The Monkey's Paw' with a relationship twist. It's a deep dive into what people really need versus what they really want, where not speaking your mind could have disastrous consequences, even if it's as simple as telling someone you have feelings for them. Inde Navarrette gives one of the best horror performances of ALL TIME. That's right. Because the Academy sucks at recognizing the horror genre (excluding Sinners), she most likely won't be nominated for an Oscar next year when she absolutely should be. If she ends up being, she should be the frontrunner. I can't think of anybody that could measure up to her insanely scary yet realistic performance in this...maybe Toni Collette if she was in her early 20s? Her screams and cries of terror are more than half the earned jumped scares in this movie and the evil expressions on her face will have your blood run cold. But I also want to recognize a fantastic performance that isn't really being talked about, Michael Johnston, who plays the main protagonist, Bear. It is probably the best 'aw shucks' nerves-on-edge performance I've ever seen out of a male actor like this. Usually those kinds of performances feel fake and I cringe during them, but no, not with this actor. This movie will make you feel sorry for fictional characters because all the main ones are really likable. The antagonist is the damn f**king company that made the 'One Wish Willows.' Bear's intentions are pure. He's not trying to get laid or get attention by dating the most popular girl in school, he's just really in love with one of his close friends since childhood and has never had the courage to express how he feels. I have no complaints for you writer/director Curry Barker, **chef's kiss.** Speaking of these 'One Wish Willows,' now hear me out, if this movie does well financially, they should make a sequel that involves the disastrous consequences of a different kind of wish. A sequel that is somewhat different for once. One can only...well...wish. 10 out of 10.

The second installment of Mortal Kombat is not only one of the worst sequels ever made but also one of the worst films to ever exist. To be clear, I'm talking about 1997's Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. That film has been a sore subject for me ever since I was 11 years old coming out of the theater with a "What In The Actual F**k?" expression on my face. 2026's MORTAL KOMBAT II is like comparing Apples and Oranges to the 1997 disaster. Annihilation makes the 2026 sequel look like Citizen F**king Kane. Well, that comparison might be a bit drastic, but Mortal Kombat II is also better than the 2021 reboot that took itself a bit too seriously and focused on a brand new character that wasn't in the video games that I couldn't quite get into (and many of you didn't either). One of the only things I didn't care for in this sequel is how dirty they do Cole Young, but I get why they did it. Mortal Kombat II is a reboot of a reboot in a way because Cole Young is now relegated to a side character and the focus is on two characters that weren't in the first film, Johnny Cage and Kitana. Which I preferred immensely, especially the latter's story. Also gone is the film trying to take itself too seriously. While the added schlock and camp is a little jarring and a little almost Annihilation like at first, the film is so entertaining and never boring that after a few minutes I got really into the new tone of the franchise. Everything is bigger and better than the 2021 reboot. There are more fights and the fight scenes are better choreographed. The tournament is more organized than the chaotic and confusing order in the 1995 original film. The fatalities here are more gruesome and shocking. Shao Kahn is menacing as hell and doesn't look like a scrawny dude that needs to eat one or two more cheeseburgers (like in Annihilation). And I had A LOT more fun. Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph and Josh Lawson steal every scene they are in as Johnny Cage, Kitana and Kano, respectively. Now the final question: is this better than the 1995 film? For me, nostalgia & the original Techno Syndrome, Bridgette Wilson & Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa say no. But it's close. 8.2 out of 10.

05/07/2026

Oh Charlie Cox, if you are lying about not being in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, especially with how DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN SEASON 2 ended, then you are an even better actor and liar than Andrew Garfield. If anyone counts the (now canon) Netflix seasons of the show, this would really be Daredevil Season 5...and if anybody counts The Defenders, which revolved very much around Daredevil's storyline, then Born Again Season 2 is really Season 6 of the show. But I digress, somehow Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is even better than the first season and probably just had the best season finale that any of those Netflix MCU shows ever had. It's probably because the 8 episodes (compared to Netflix's usual 13 when they were on that platform a decade ago) are compacted tightly, don't drag, and complete a story while also giving its dedicated audience enough of a juicy cliffhanger to leave us wanting more. The acting is top tier (especially whenever Charlie Cox or Vincent D'Onofrio are on screen), the action isn't overloaded and is only needed when the story requires it. And when it does happen, it's badass, especially if villain Bullseye is within the mix. I loved last season too, unlike a lot of fans, but I think I loved it more for what it was leading to, and not as itself. With season two, I loved it for itself, not just for what it might lead to. Charlie Cox IS DAREDEVIL and VINCENT D'ONOFRIO IS KINGPIN. If they ever have to recast their roles for whatever reason, any actor auditioning has almost impossible shoes to fill. Just know this, The Punisher isn't in this season, but that's okay, because he has his own Special Presentation coming up on Disney+ and we know that Jon Berenthal is DEFINITELY in Spider-Man: Brand New Day because he's in that film's trailer. It's also okay because the story didn't need him this season. But I have a feeling in my gut that he'll be needed back for Season 3, with the brilliant way things ended here. Sidenote: Someone needs to force Donald Trump to watch this season and you know...maybe take some notes about what could happen if you p**s people off too much? Just a thought. 9.4 out of 10.

HOKUM is the first scary movie to really get under my skin, long after I left the theater, since 2018's Hereditary, though not as bad the latter (thank f**k). It's best to go into this film as blind as possible for maximum enjoyment. All I had ever seen in the marketing leading up to its release was the teaser trailer and the theatrical trailer and both of those really don't give you a sense of what the film is truly about, other than it looks as though it pays homage to 'The Shining' involving a writer and his inner demons staying at a very old (but this time populated) hotel, trying to finish the last installment of his conquistador trilogy. He's having trouble with the ending/epilogue. The movie stars Adam Scott of Severance & Parks and Recreation as said writer and at first the movie makes you really despise his character but then tries to explain him and prove his actual worth throughout the film. And this hotel may or may not be haunted. That's all I'm going to say. It turns out, the movie is essentially a ghost story and disappearance case all wrapped up in one neat bow. Unlike Hereditary, which had absolutely no jump scares (which was good for that movie), Hokum has plenty and they are all very effective and well earned. The cinematography and shots in this film are quite masterful, giving off a sense of dread whether something is really lurking in the shadows or not. I have now seen all three of writer/director Damian McCarthy's films and it really is third times the charm, as I didn't really like Caveat or Oddity (though I'm coming around on the latter). Hokum grabs you and never lets go. The climax of the film is thrilling yet haunting and while some say that this movie should've been more bleak, they very obviously weren't paying attention throughout the film. This is easily my favorite horror movie of the year so far and it is going to be tough to beat, although I have a feeling the upcoming 'Obsession' or 'Backrooms' might tell me to hold their beer, especially the former. Also, unlike Hereditary, I could watch Hokum over and over again without going to a dark place within my mind. That's saying something. That's cinema. 10 out of 10.

While I'm trying to figure out a way to review a movie that is in my top 5 of 2026 so far without spoiling any of it, let me do one on the very satisfying legacy sequel, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2. This follow-up to what I now consider a classic chick-flick comedy should be the blueprint for all comedies in general on how to successfully make a legacy sequel. I'm looking at you Practical Magic 2 and Focker-In-Law, please don't let us down. It's not trying too hard to change things up (possibly souring both films) while also trying just hard enough to prove that its existence is needed. This sequel feels like a natural extension to the original story. Right off the bat, Anne Hathaway's 'Andy' gets fired from her journalist job with a text during an awards ceremony no less. How eerie that this movie comes out the same weekend Spirit Airlines is shut down, their employees getting the shocks of their lives mid shift, am I right? The rest of the movie is so post 2020's, in that 'Runway' and other "has been magazines", have to prove their financial worth where everything is going digital and if a journalist's article doesn't capture immediate attention, that journalist is let go just as quickly. Meryl Streep's 'Miranda' is in the middle of a PR crisis when the chairman of 'Runway' hires Andy immediately as the features editor for damage control while also getting more eyes and attention to the 'Runway' publication. It's probably the best & most natural story/excuse to get the gang back together that I've ever seen in a comedy like this. For me, Anne Hathaway (followed closely by Stanley Tucci) was the MVP of this film. She seemed so into her character and she seemed like she really enjoyed being back and wasn't just phoning it in. There are only two things I don't like about this movie. I feel like Emily Blunt was shortchanged in this (screen time + some of what they do with her character) and I thought Miranda needed to be closer to how mean and hard she was on people in the first film. I thought the writing made her a little too soft but all this is forgivable as maybe they wanted her to have learned some lessons in 20 years, especially when she now has a kind and caring husband that genuinely loves her. But those are small complaints. Everyone that enjoyed the first (and still superior for me) film will like and/or love this f/up. Nothing to be leery of with this sequel. 8.4 out of 10.

Even though I love Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, I cannot in good conscience ultimately recommend their new Netflix thriller APEX because of how conventional it is. If you've seen a dramatic and/or thriller rock climbing wilderness movie, you've already seen Apex. Tell me if this sounds familiar: at the beginning someone close to the rock climbing protagonist dies, the protagonist doesn't want to climb ever again, situation arises where rock climber must climb again and then in the climax, the climber must overcome a climb similar to the one where they lost a loved one at the beginning of the film. If this story structure wasn't in Screenplay Writing 101, I would consider it plagiarism. The SAME S**T happens EXACTLY ON CUE in this movie as it does the likes of 'Vertical Limit', 'Cliffhanger' and the more recent 'Fall'. The only surprises in this movie are Taron Egerton's wackadoo bats**t crazy performance that borders on over acting and Charlize Theron's commitment to her role. That's it. Everything else you can guess before it even happens. For example, after the prologue, Charlize Theron enters a small information center and looks at a bunch of missing person's pictures thumbtacked on the wall. Rule of thumb with screenplays/movies: if you hint at something in Act I, you sure as s**t will see it come up again in Act II or III. If you've seen previews you know the movie is just Good Guy Theron Vs. Bad Guy Egerton in the rocky wilderness terrain that has a lot of hidden spaces and passages. GUESS WHERE THE MISSING PEOPLE ARE!!! I'll give the movie two other compliments before ultimately giving it a thumbs down. It was nice of Netflix to cough up the dough and let the filmmakers make most of the movie in the actual wilderness/on location and the plot becomes a bit unconventional for two seconds in the third act before bumping itself straight back into predictability. The movie is harmless and easily digestible. Would I ever go out of my way to watch it again either by myself or with a group of people that haven't seen it yet? Absolutely not. 6.1 out of 10.

MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE'S STILL UNFAIR should be the official blueprint for bringing a series back to life that was cancelled oh so long ago. It should be short, sweet and then it gets out as fast as it came in. It should just be an update and sneak peek at what our favorite characters have been up to since the series finale. Nostalgia doesn't work if it's in it for the long haul. Why some of these revived series need to be full new seasons of television is beyond me. Now while I know that the new Scrubs revival is getting good word of mouth and viewership numbers are high, I wish it was only like a four to six episode little peek at what JD and co. have been up to. If it were up to me, it should've stayed cancelled after Season 8 (I pretend Season 9 with Dave Franco doesn't exist). I was going to check it out but when I heard that JD and Elliot were divorced & no longer together, I was like "Nope, not going to ruin the perfect ending Season 8 had." Same thing goes for Will & Grace, Roseanne/The Conner's, That 70s/90s Show, etc. But I digress, my review isn't to complain about the countless revivals that never seem to end, it's to praise Malcolm In The Middle's, 4 episode, quick little peek to see what the gang has been up to, limited revival. Everybody (except for Erik Per Sullivan of course) steps back into their roles like they never left, especially Frankie Muniz, Jane Kaczmarek and of course, the great Bryan Cranston. Malcolm now has a daughter that also breaks the fourth wall and speaks to the audience. She even gets a mini arc here. All the main characters get a great little mini arc within these four episodes and it seems as though EVERYBODY, that's still alive or wanted to return, comes back for at least a cameo. It's easy to pull that off when the main story is Hal and Lois having a grand party for their 40th Wedding Anniversary. This limited series did what it intended to do, it lovingly catches up with nostalgia while also making the viewer want to revisit said nostalgia. That's right, I've started Malcolm In The Middle (2000-2007) all over again and guess what? It still holds up. VERY well. I belly laugh at least three times an episode in its early seasons. I only wish Matthew Perry were still alive and that they thought of something like this for Friends. Oh well, maybe in another universe. For this universe, this is still very solid. 8.5 out of 10.

04/23/2026

OVER YOUR DEAD BODY is yet another entertaining as hell, darkly funny Samara Weaving banger in 2026 (we already got Ready or Not 2 about a month ago). The only reason why I prefer the latter of the two films is because some of the dark comedy mixed in with serious moments didn't work for me here as well as they did in Ready or Not 2. That might be because the Radio Silence duo are more seasoned directors in that genre than Lonely Island's Jorma Taccone is, who is just getting his feet wet here. Jorma has only done straight comedy before (Lonely Island songs and skits, SNL, Popstar and MacGruber) and when the movie is just being darkly comedic, the film works in spades, but mixing the dark comedy with some serious stomach churning scenes involving lots of blood, loss of life, gore, murdered family members and dismemberment, not so much. But no matter, because the amount of entertainment I had from this film easily outweighs my minor criticisms, and even then, it could just be me that feels this way. I definitely love the first half of the movie and only like the 2nd half. Whenever it is just Jason Segel and Samara Weaving on screen, bickering and saying passive aggressive things to each other, the movie shines. It's when Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis and co. enter the fray when things go a little...well astray. It's not that they are terrible in the film, far from it, it's just that the characters that they play are one dimensional and make the stupidest decisions right after they make pretty smart ones. It's a bit frustrating, especially when both Olyphant and Lewis chew the scenery to hilarious effect. It would be funnier and unconventional if their characters were written a bit smarter. And in my conclusion of this review, I want to just say that no, I will not be seeing and reviewing the Michael Jackson biopic. It's mind numbing and infuriating to me that it won't even address the p**ophile allegations against the pop star because of the combination of some legal technicality and not wanting to trigger people that believe the allegations are 100% false without looking at any of the evidence. I already have to bear witness to that cover up s**t every day whenever I see that Donald Trump is still the current "President of the United States." 8.0 out of 10.

From the opening studio logos before WAR MACHINE even started, I had figured it would be at least a halfway decent movie. Why? Because it wasn't just the Netflix logo, it was Lionsgate, which said all it needed to say for me: That this movie was meant to be theatrical, but because of original movies not doing well in theaters, was purchased by Netflix and put on their streaming platform instead. You can tell that Netflix did not put in one measly cent toward production. The CGI is halfway decent and they actually shot out in the wilderness, so the cinematography is up to s***f. This is a solid action movie. It also comes with a solid performance by Alan Ritchson. Even though it may rip off elements from the original Predator, Aliens and the Michael Bay Transformers' movies, in the end it becomes its own thing, even if the character development for Ritchson is all too familiar for this genre. It's best to go into this movie completely blind, like I did. Don't watch a trailer, don't go to IMDB for the summary description and/or take a look at the poster (too late on that one because of this review I guess), just search for it on the streaming platform, hit play, and know that you are about to watch an action/chase movie that never lets up and of course gives you an obligatory sequel set up scene at the end. Nothing more and nothing less. However, if Lionsgate and Netflix want to team up to make a 'War Machine(s) 2", they will need to put more money into it. You can't do another skirmish in the woods type of thing. You gotta do a on the ground, crowded city destruction movie. Otherwise, you are just remaking the original film (like the Predator series does) over and over again. This movie was nothing special, but it is better than the below average s**t that Netflix makes itself and it uses its R rating to its bloody advantage. 7.5 out of 10.
