Marco Movies: 1993 – 2026
Tonight, as I lock these doors for the last time, I’m not just closing a business—I’m saying goodbye to a life I’ve known since 2001.
I have spent a quarter-century in the theater industry. I’ve worked as an usher, film projectionist, manager, and eventually the owner of this trailblazing theater.
I think back to the early days, seeing families dressed as witches and wizards for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. I remember building (and destroying) theatrical standees. I remember the electric excitement of midnight premieres with crowds of fans dressed as their favorite heroes and villains.
There is something sacred about gathering in the dark with friends, family, and strangers to share an experience and a meal—to laugh, to cry, and to be moved by what they see on the screen. To have played even a small part in providing that space for you is a privilege I don't take lightly. Film is important to all of us; it’s how we see the world and how we see each other.
This industry gave me my career, but it also gave me my life. It’s where I met most of my closest friends, and most importantly, it’s where I met my wife. My son took his very first steps right here in this building. I am heartbroken that he won’t grow up running through these halls, or one day selling tickets, serving popcorn, or taking over the business for himself.
Closing these doors tonight is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But as the house lights go up for the final time, I am walking away with a lifetime of memories.
To our incredible staff, our regulars, and this community: Thank you for being the best part of this journey.
Thank you for everything.
With love and gratitude,
Drake Heroy
