California Pottery & Tile Works (CPTW) was established in 1994, with the primary goal of continuing the rich tradition of California tile making and decoration perfected by the Malibu and Catalina Potteries in the early decades of the 20th century in an environment capable of meeting the high-volume, time-sensitive needs of today’s architectural, design, and building industries. CPTW has the produ

ction capacity, both in the US and in Monterey, Mexico, that allows for the efficient production of both large and small custom jobs for commercial, civic, hospitality and residential projects. CPTW still functions as a custom studio producing historical reinterpretations of classic designs customized to meet the exact color and size specifications of any project. We are, however a “custom studio” with a technological edge. Target: Azusa California
CalPot utilized our in-house CP-163 glaze to create Target red tiles for the Azusa, California location. Our tiles are prominently featured on the escalator and elevator structures, as well as the shopping cart return floor sign. Additionally, a custom tile mural adorns the entrance over the parking lot.

CalPot has made tile dreams come true for owners Shallom and Jilla Berkman for restaurants Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Downtown L.A., Pasadena, Laguna Beach, in Old Towne Orange, and Las Vegas.

“The best thing about working with Desmond and Sean McLean (CalPot’s owners) is their love of creative challenges. They love when Jilla challenges them with creative visions,” said Shallom.

Those creative visions have included tile murals, clocks, fountains, ceilings, stairwell risers, tabletops and more. No materials are spared to create the right look. Urth’s Pasadena café tiles sparkle with 24-karat gold glaze.

Each Urth Caffé has its own signature architectural era. For example, the Downtown Los Angeles café is strongly Art Deco (seen in these photos).

These photographs revisit an earlier mural project brought to us by artist . We are honored to feature 'Pebbles In A Pond,' a mural by at Making Waves Academy in Richmond, California. This 24 x 72 foot piece celebrates the profound impact of art in the community and illustrates the transformative power of small actions. Rigo's vision beautifully showcases art's influence. CalPot's team was honored to be part of this journey, contributing to a project that fosters connection and positivity.
