What do you get when you pair a young, optimistic ballroom dance competitor with a graceless professional football player? TWO LEFT FEET, a delightful stage “dansical” about finding the perfect partner where you least expect it. This love story, conceived by former ballroom dancer Katy Cane, tangos right into the heart of a ballroom dance studio on its last leg and follows the colorful lives of it
s zany instructors, including hopeful and naïve champion dancer GINA GRACE, who subsequent a painful breakup with her former partner (and ex-fiancé) Charles Welbourne, has only eight weeks to find a replacement partner for a major summer dancesport competition. When a professional football player named Rock discreetly seeking dance lessons in order to improve his career performance arrives at the studio, Charles’ mother and opportunistic studio owner Lillian Welbourne assigns him to Gina, who takes an uncanny interest in the graceless jock. In a few short weeks, however, Gina and Rock become a pair tantamount to Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. But a jealous teammate learns of Rock’s involvement at the dance studio and threatens to expose what he learns to the entire team, causing Rock to abandon Gina a week before the big competition. Gina can hardly handle losing another partner, but with the support of her whimsical, quasi-eccentric mother, Gina learns the importance of loving herself and never giving up on her dreams. Sweeping with laughter, truth, and a colorful array of characters, this story promises that for anyone who feels like they’re going through life with TWO LEFT FEET, there’s always someone out there with two right feet to help us rumba! –by C.
