La Quinta should shift to district elections to give all residents a 'direct,' neighborhood voice on the City Council, a letter writer suggests. (Photo: Bruce Plante/Tulsa World)

Re:District elections for La Quinta

Who you gonna call? No, it’s not a movie quotation, it’s reality in La Quinta.

Lots of beautiful and well-established trees are being cut down along Fred Waring up to Adams. Will more trees get chopped out? Which of the council members do you call to find out about this project, and to count on to represent North La Quinta’s personalized concerns?

So yes, La Quinta needs district representation on the City Council. I support wholeheartedly the creation of 4 council districts so that only the mayor is elected by the whole city.

North La Quinta is not the same as the Cove. South La Quinta is much different from the rest of the city. District elections will also open up the council to different members and, most especially, to more points of view.

We need to get rid of the council echo chamber effect. Most of all, we all need a particular council member who is directly responsible to our part of the city.

When you say “Who you gonna call?” there should be a real person on the council who lives and represents our neighborhood issues.
