To the fans of the Star,
I am heartbroken.
I have ran this page since 2010 with the hope being to raise awareness to save the Star from being destroyed from La Puente history. From the moment I opened the page, I have heard so many wonderful stories. First kisses, first jobs, favorite movies, shenanigans. I love hearing them all. It inspired me to volunteer for the historical society while I was in college. It helped me work with the politicians in the city to help better my and my communities future.
To tell you this hurts is an understatement. I am at a loss.
I want to thank everyone who has helped us try and save the theater in their many ways. It may feel like it was for nothing, but it wasn’t. At the end of the day, the theater will not be forgotten. The city HAS to build a memorial for the Star within a year of demolition BY LAW and you all know I will fight to ensure that that project will not be delayed for any reason.
I am disappointed in my hometown city council for not addressing many of the issues presented to the planning commission.
1- The final EIR states there was no interest in purchasing the theater. - I can attest that there was plenty of FIRM interest, the owners were never willing to sell. I started making phone calls in 2009 and never once received a call back personally.
2 - Parking that was granted to the city for public use has been sold for a private business venture.
3 - Rumors about Klinakis’s construction company getting a major kickback for this demolition. - I have yet to see solid proof, but there has been no proof provided for the opposite either.
Again, thank you to all who have helped in this effort. It was a great run. I appreciate every single one of you who sent an e-mail or made time to show up to meetings. Please use this as an example in the need to fight corruption in politics.
The page will remain open until the end of Facebook. Please continue to share memories and photos. There is always at least one person listening to your stories. Thank you for sharing them.
Sincerely,
Danielle Rivera
