Shoutout to a local small business owner. Kyle with Relentless Tile & Remodeling jumped in and got the job done.

If you've been to the Strand anytime in the last few years, you would've noticed a huge broken piece of plaster and chipped paint on the ceiling in Theater 1, and another in Theater 2.

We had to decide what took priority in these first weeks, and if it was an eyesore, it had to go. Kyle and his team repaired both portions of our ceiling in less than a week.

Theater 1 came out at a 98% color match, and trust us, you won't be able to tell the difference.

Color matching on the Theater 2 hole was tricky. Turns out the ceiling had been painted completely different colors over the years. We decided having the patch fixed was worth more to us than chasing another color match for no real reason. It's dark in there anyway!

What do you think of the before and after?

We'll be working together on plenty more at the Strand. Kyle and his team understood what we needed and worked with our budget. And no, this isn't a paid ad, we just wanted to give credit where it's due. When you've got a team that works that well together, you become relentless about giving guests the best experience.

Thanks again, Kyle. If you need a bathroom remodel or ADA compliance work, call Relentless Tile & Remodeling. They're the experts.

🚨 UPDATE: Our cast is set! We've officially hired 9 new team members for the Strand. A short 'meet the cast' Facebook post is coming in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!

We promised those who applied that we'd post a public update. We also think the community deserves to know how this went, so here we are.

We had 47 applications. After we closed interview signups, more than 15 additional people reached out hoping to be considered. We weren't able to fit them into this round. Of those 47, 9 didn't show up for their interview, leaving us with 38 interviews completed.

The 38 people who interviewed represented a good cross-section of the community. We learned a few things from this process:

- People want to work.
- The Strand means a lot to almost everyone who applied.
- We have a clearer picture of what we need from our opening crew.

We've called back 16 for second interviews. One person has since let us know they've accepted another opportunity, which we completely respect.

For those we didn't call back: we genuinely appreciate that you applied, showed up, and shared your time with us. We're keeping every application on file. Literally. It's a folder in our saved documents, not a euphemism. If we end up needing a floater down the road and you agreed to be contacted for that, we'll reach out well after we've opened.

If you're curious about a specific reason we didn't move forward, we're happy to share. Just reach out.

Thank you for trusting us with your time.

Good morning, Kendallville! We're working on our summer schedule and want your input.

This isn't finalized yet. It depends on film licensing, staff scheduling, and what the community actually wants. So here's what we're thinking, and we'd love to hear from you.

Wednesdays (summer only): Two kid movie showtimes during the day on both screens. Could be the same movie or two different kid movies. This is a summer program approved by the studios.

Thursday through Sunday: Two different first-run movies running on our two screens. Showtimes staggered 30 minutes apart so the lobby doesn't get crowded. Each film runs about 3 weeks before the next one rotates in. This is how independent theaters work with the studios.

Here's what we're proposing:

Wednesday (summer only):
Movie A: 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM
Movie B: 10:30 AM, 1:30 PM

Thursday and Friday:
Movie A: 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, 10:00 PM
Movie B: 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, 10:30 PM

Saturday:
Movie A: 10:00 AM, 1:00, 4:00, 7:00, 10:00 PM
Movie B: 10:30 AM, 1:30, 4:30, 7:30, 10:30 PM

Sunday:
Movie A: 1:00, 3:30, 6:00 PM
Movie B: 1:30, 4:00, 6:30 PM

A few questions we'd especially love your feedback on:
- Is Saturday 10:00/10:30 AM a time families would actually come?
- For Sunday, is 1:00/1:30 PM a good first show or would later work better?

Drop your thoughts in the comments. We'll adjust based on what we hear before opening.

It's time to say hello! My name is Ruben and I've recently purchased the Strand Theatre from the Robbins Family. Behind the scenes, I've been working on this since January 8th with Michelle Holland at Hosler Realty, David Dressler at MidWest America FCU, and Brightpoint Development Fund.

I'd like to thank the Robbins Family, especially Kevin and Kathy, for being good stewards of the Strand for the past 6 years. They kept the doors open through some of the hardest years this industry has ever seen, and the Strand wouldn't be here today without them.

A little bit about me. I was raised in a small town near Grand Rapids, Michigan and have always loved going to the movie theater. I'm a big movie fan and even tried my hand at acting in LA for a few years. I've always found it unfortunate and sad when classic movie theaters had to close down. The theater I grew up around, Studio 28 in Kentwood, was shut down and torn down. It was once the largest multiplex theater in the world! What a shame!

When I read about the Strand and how the community came together to revive it, I thought it was a lovely story. I knew the community here was strong and would continue to support the theater. It made the Strand the perfect movie theater to be a part of.

Currently, I'm working on catching up with some deferred maintenance items, painting, and adding new concession items for guests of the Strand. I also need to sign agreements with the studios, vendors, and make sure all of our permits are filed appropriately. These can take up to a few weeks and I'm hoping we're able to open in time for the upcoming Star Wars film, The Mandalorian & Grogu! We'll have a soft opening that weekend and plan to have a grand opening soon after!

Our admissions prices will not be changing. We're still going to be $6 for adults and $4 for kids under the age of 12, seniors, veterans, and matinees.

My initial plan is to increase the number of showtimes from 8 per weekend across 2 screens to 32 per weekend across 2 screens! I'm also in talks with the studios on licensing for operating special movies on Monday through Wednesday, but that will take some time.

Between now and when we open, I'll be posting updates on what's going on inside the Strand on the Strand's page. I'll be asking for opinions from the community.

The new mission for the Strand Theatre is to be a community-first and community-driven theater. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I can't wait to meet and greet all of you! Please share this post with everyone in the community that you know.

Thank you for being a part of the Strand Theatre and thank you for your continued support!

It's time to say goodbye. When we took over the operation of the Strand in February 2020, we had big dreams and lots of ideas of things we could for the theater.

Covid changed all that. Instead of doing all the things we had planned, we had to figure out how to keep the Strand open amid restrictions and no new movies to play. Many theaters didn't survive Covid. But by the grace of God and the amazing support from our customers and community, we kept the Strand alive.

During the last 6 years, we have made some wonderful friendships and our customers are the best! Most of our regular customers know that our family is a strong advocate for Mental Health and Su***de Awareness. We have first-hand experience with both. Two years ago, we felt God was leading us in a new direction and Kevin started his Masters degree program to become a mental health counselor. He is in his final year and starting his internship in May. We don't know where his new career will take us after he gets his license, but we will always cherish our time at the Strand and all the special people we met.

The new caretaker of the Strand has big dreams and lots of ideas to bring to the theater. We are excited to see his plans come to life and we know the Strand customers and the Kendallville community will be as welcoming and supportive to him as you were to our family.

Thank you again for all of your support.
