People have asked, "We want to see THE ODYSSEY, but we'd really like to experience it on film. Where should we go?"

If budget isn't a consideration, I'd book a flight to Los Angeles and see it in 15-perf/70mm IMAX at one of the 5 theaters presenting it that way. That is, without question, the ultimate way to experience the film.

More realistically, a 5-perf/70mm presentation is going to be spectacular as well. Here in the Twin Cities, three theaters are showing THE ODYSSEY in 70mm.

My personal recommendation? Head straight to The Heights Theater. In fact, I'll be there myself for a screening at some point during the run!!

The Heights is a beautiful historic single-screen theater that is now owned and operated by the team behind the Music Box Theatre in Chicago. Anyone in the exhibition industry knows the Music Box is one of the finest theaters of its kind in the country, and that same commitment to outstanding presentation has been brought to an even higher level at the Heights.

I'm also familiar with the work that has gone into preparing their 70mm presentation. Their projection and presentation standards are first-rate, using dual Academy Award-winning vintage Norelco AAII projectors with true reel-to-reel film projection rather than automated platter systems. You can be confident you're seeing the film the way it should be shown.

Of course, we'd also love to have you experience THE ODYSSEY here at THE STATE in stunning 4K on our 40-foot screen, presented to industry standards with the film's original 5.1-channel soundtrack. And just as a technical note, if a theater claims they're presenting THE ODYSSEY in 7.1, that's simply not accurate—the theatrical mix is 5.1.

Our goal has always been to deliver a premium presentation at an affordable price. You'll enjoy the same professional digital 4K presentation standards found at far more expensive venues, but at the lowest ticket prices around.

But if you're specifically looking for the finest analog film projection experience in Minnesota, then my total film-nerd recommendation would absolutely be the Heights.

To everyone who stopped by during Music in the Park tonight, we sincerely apologize that we had to close the concession stand early.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, I was the only person working behind the counter this evening. Normally there are a few of us, but tonight it was a one-person operation.

Unfortunately, I also managed to do a number on my leg behind the concession stand (don't ask! 😄), and at the moment I can barely stand. Rather than hobbling around the snack bar looking like Chester from Gunsmoke—a reference our more seasoned movie fans will definitely appreciate—we made the decision to close early.

We're sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Hopefully I'll be back on two good legs very soon, and we'll have everything running normally again behind the counter. So this scratches off me changing the marquee later this evening. Lol.

Have you ever wondered what Mr. Takagi of the Nakatomi Corporation did before that fateful Christmas Eve?

Apparently, he flew helicopters in Hawaii—with Elvis Presley!

The wonderful James Shigeta, best remembered as Joseph Takagi in Die Hard, co-stars with Elvis in the 1966 musical comedy PARADISE, HAWAIIAN STYLE.

We knew it would be fun, but we honestly did not expect such a huge turnout. You made it one of the biggest Late at the State nights of the summer!
