We are still committed to preserving the theatre as a community theatre/arts space/venue for the Southeast to cherish and enjoy.
Happy 95th birthday to the Warner Theatre in Huntington Park, California, first opened on this day in 1930!
The 1,468-seat Warner Huntington Park opened as the first of a trio of Art Deco theatres built for Warner Bros., the other two being the Warner Grand in San Pedro (still in use for live entertainment although undergoing a renovation right now) and the Warner Beverly Hills (demolished 1988).
The three theatres were built as part of a single deal for Warner Bros., all designed in the Art Deco style by Scottish-American theatre architect B. Marcus Priteca.
The Warner Huntington Park was designed with organ chambers but, like its two sisters, never received an organ.
In the 1980s Pacific Theatres redeveloped the theatre into a two-screen “twin”, renaming it Pacific’s Warner 2. Many Spanish and Spanish-subtitled films ran at the theatre, supporting the local community well.
In 2000 the theatre closed and it remained vacant for an extended time. The City of Huntington Park declared it a historic landmark in 2007, then in 2013 it was sold. In 2015 work commenced on an adaptive re-use project, and in 2018 the theatre reopened as a Blink Fitness gym (this is when the photo dates from). Sadly, the gym closed at the end of August 2024 after Blink Fitness filed for bankruptcy. The mothballed fully furnished gym is currently available to lease at BizBuySell.
