We have an absolutely stacked weekend beginning Thursday, September 3 - with five new films opening at the River Oaks Theatre:
THE SUN NEVER SETS - Dakota Fanning and Jake Johnson star in a film about a woman named Wendy whose life is thrown into chaos when her boyfriend, Jack, who is older and divorced with children, insists they take space to evaluate the relationship. During their break, Wendy runs into her ex, Chuck, forcing them into a volatile triangle. Opens Thursday, September 3.
THE MARCHING BAND - This box office smash from France follows a world-famous orchestra conductor and a blue-collar cafeteria worker who discover they are brothers who were separated at birth. Despite their differences, they develop a bond through their mutual love of music. A Cannes premiere and Audience Award Winner at Rendez-Vous with French Cinema. Opens Friday, September 4.
LATE FAME - Willem Dafoe stars as legendary New York poet Ed Saxberger, whose forgotten works captivate an eccentric group of young creatives and reignite his artistic passion. Their intrigue intertwines with the bewitching presence of actress Gloria (played by Greta Lee).
WINTER HYMNS - In this breakout indie from Wisconsin, a palliative care doctor (Colleen Madden) meets with a series of dying patients and their families. Following the screening, there will be a Q&A with the film's director, Nathan Deming. Opens Saturday, September 5.
HELL'S HIGHWAY: THE TRUE STORY OF HIGHWAY SAFETY FILMS - Critically acclaimed upon its 2003 theatrical release, HELL'S HIGHWAY is a morbidly curious exploration of the shocking driver education films of yesteryear. In the 1970s and ‘80s, these traumatic films disappeared from the American classroom and assumed an almost mythical status. Hell’s Highway unearths these artifacts of grim Americana and interviews the filmmakers responsible for this radical educational movement.
