Let's set the stage.

The year is 1939. America is still emerging from the Great Depression, and in just a few months Germany will invade Poland, igniting World War II.

Hallettsville is a small agricultural community. Folks drive cars, but horse-drawn wagons can still be seen around town. Most families work hard, and the Cole Theatre doesn't even have air conditioning.

And yet...
On April 8, 1939, the people of Hallettsville decide to throw themselves a Hollywood premiere.

Local residents dress up as famous movie stars. Floodlights shine in front of the theatre. Loudspeakers broadcast the festivities. There is comedy, music, singing, dancing, and a late-night movie. The event doesn't even begin until 10:30 p.m.

It's brings such delight to imagine these farmers, ranchers, merchants, and homemakers spending a Saturday night pretending to be Hollywood celebrities, gathering with neighbors, laughing together, and staying out far later than usual.

Which makes us wonder...
Should there be another Hollywood Premiere at the Cole 87 years later? 🎬✨

🎬 We know. We know.

Get the show on the road!

Trust us—we're with you.

And speaking of shows...

Did you know The Cole Theatre has a stage? And a mezzanine?

That's right, folks.

While The Cole will once again light up the screen with movies, our vision goes even further. We're working to bring this hometown gem back as a place for connection, community, and entertainment of all kinds.

As we've dug through nearly a century of newspaper archives, we've discovered that The Cole once hosted far more than films. There were quiz nights, Miss Hallettsville pageants, cooking schools, church and community fundraisers, live music, and even Hollywood impersonation contests.

Apparently our great-grandparents knew how to have a grand ole' time.

And we'd like to think they were onto something.

Our plans include reopening the stage and bringing life back to the mezzanine—so future generations can enjoy this building not just as a movie theatre, but as a gathering place once again.

Progress is continuing every day. It is our hope that this iconic piece of Hallettsville remains part of our community for another century.

In the meantime, we will show a few glimpses into The Cole's past—and maybe a few hints about its future.

The show is coming.
