Superheroes and science fiction aren't dead, but the old formula may be.
Lately, it seems like the Grim Reaper has been making the rounds at the box office. Several superhero and Sci-fi films have struggled, the Mandalorian, He-Man, Supergirl, and even Steven Spielberg's Disclosure failed to connect with audiences the way many expected.
I don't believe people have stopped loving superheroes or science fiction. I believe they're simply becoming more selective. Audiences want fresh ideas, compelling characters, and stories that surprise them, not just another sequel or a familiar formula wrapped in bigger special effects.
For independent creators, this is actually an opportunity. We aren't tied to billion-dollar franchises or decades of continuity. We can take risks, create original worlds, and tell stories that haven't been told before.
The future doesn't belong to the biggest budget. It belongs to the best story.
