In 1995, Dolly Parton started mailing books to children in her home county to inspire children to love reading in honor of her dad, who couldn’t read or write.

That idea lives here too. Every month, 123 children in the 66736 community find a book in the mailbox — because of neighbors who fund it, volunteers who run it, and a woman from Sevier County, TN who started it all.

Thank you, Dolly. We will keep working to support your dream!

The Library Board has made the difficult decision that as of September 1, 2026 the meeting room will be available at a rate of $20 per day. This fee is refundable up to 48 hours before your scheduled event.

We had a great Summer Reading Program and we have YOU to thank! There were 124 readers, and they read an estimated 4,413 books! Wow! We had 10 in-person events and almost 400 attendants! Thank you so much for making the library and reading a part of your summer! Our sponsors included: Pizza Hut, Casey's, Sonic Drive-In, Kansas State Fair, Friends of the Library, Fredonia Kansas, Fredonia Outdoor Equipment, and the Southeast Kansas Library System!
