๐‰๐”๐๐„ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–: If last month was community theater optimism, this month is pure downtown chaos. Join us at as we continue our twelfth season with Martin Scorseseโ€™s cult-favorite neo-noir/black comedy ๐€๐…๐“๐„๐‘ ๐‡๐Ž๐”๐‘๐’.

A delirious blend of black comedy, urban paranoia, and Kafkaesque misfortune, ๐˜ˆ๐˜ง๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ ๐˜๐˜ฐ๐˜ถ๐˜ณ๐˜ด follows mild-mannered office drone Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) as a late-night trip to downtown Manhattan spirals into an increasingly surreal odyssey of missed connections, bizarre encounters, and escalating bad luck.

Transforming 1980s New York into a labyrinth of anxiety and absurdity, the film is equal parts nightmare and screwball comedy, and it remains one of the most distinctive (and underrated) films of Scorseseโ€™s career.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Beer/wine/concessions are available in Green Lightโ€™s lobby; you can also grab dinner next door at Green Light Lounge + Kitchen! Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the box office or the link below or in our bio.

Our Third Thursday screening events tend to sell out, so reserve your seats now!

๐Œ๐€๐˜ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ: Our pal Jesse from is back โ€” this time heading backstage with ๐–๐€๐ˆ๐“๐ˆ๐๐† ๐…๐Ž๐‘ ๐†๐”๐…๐…๐Œ๐€๐, where community theater dreams collide with ego, ambition, and the beautiful disaster of putting on a show. Curtainโ€™s up, Jesse.

๐˜ž๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ ๐˜Ž๐˜ถ๐˜ง๐˜ง๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ gave theater kids of the 1990s something they rarely saw on screen: themselves โ€” awkward, earnest, and endlessly devoted to putting on a show that might only matter within their small town, even if they believed it was destined for Broadway.

I was a junior at a performing arts high school in โ€™96, and when the film came out, my friends and I were obsessed. Christopher Guestโ€™s mockumentary perfectly captured the quirks, hopes, and heartbreaks of community performers who dreamed big despite humble realities.

In my decade touring with Broadway productions, Iโ€™ve learned that theater people โ€” students and professionals alike โ€” often have an inflated sense of their own importance. But that confidence isnโ€™t vanity; itโ€™s survival. You need it to walk onstage every night and perform for a theater full of strangers. ๐˜Ž๐˜ถ๐˜ง๐˜ง๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ understands that tension, mocking the delusion while honoring the dignity behind it. For those of us obsessed with the stage, it was both satire and validation: the inside jokes, rehearsal meltdowns, and outsized ambitions were instantly recognizable, yet treated with warmth instead of ridicule.

Guest and his cast reminded us not to take ourselves too seriously while also showing that what we do matters. The final sequence โ€” those lingering shots of the hometown audience smiling and applauding โ€” captured that truth perfectly. Their joy validated the castโ€™s over-the-top enthusiasm and affirmed why we do theater in the first place: not for fame, but for connection, community, and the sheer love of performance.

When we finalized our 2026 programming back in December, ๐‚๐š๐ญ๐ก๐ž๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐Žโ€™๐‡๐š๐ซ๐š was still very much with us; so neither ๐–๐€๐ˆ๐“๐ˆ๐๐† ๐…๐Ž๐‘ ๐†๐”๐…๐…๐Œ๐€๐ nor ๐€๐…๐“๐„๐‘ ๐‡๐Ž๐”๐‘๐’ were selected as intentional tributes.

And yet, here we are.

The funny thing about truly great performers is how naturally their work becomes memorialized through the act of revisiting it. Oโ€™Hara had a rare gift: she could make absurdity feel completely human. Whether delivering a line with deadpan precision or spiraling into total comic chaos, she never played at the joke; she played the person. That sincerity is what made her unforgettable.

So while this monthโ€™s screening wasnโ€™t planned as a tribute, itโ€™s become a fitting reminder of just how much brilliance she gave to comedy, film and every scene lucky enough to feature her.

Come watch her shine on the big screen THIS THURSDAY at in one of her funniest performances. Tickets are available at the link in our bio.
