A24’s Backrooms could be on track to make box office history this weekend!

The liminal horror phenomenon, directed by Kane Parsons and based on his viral found-footage video series, reportedly generated an impressive $10.4 million in Thursday night preview grosses at the domestic box office.

That figure is slightly ahead of the $10.3 million preview haul for Five Nights at Freddy’s and has prompted analysts to significantly raise opening weekend expectations. Early projections in the $40–50 million range have now surged to an estimated $65–80 million debut, positioning Backrooms as one of the biggest horror openings in recent memory.
