Hilarious and moving, “We Are Pat” is a striking new documentary that examines the relevance of one of the most baffling comedy characters of the 1990s.

In the 1990s, Saturday Night Live turned gender nonconformity into a punchline with the recurring “It’s Pat” sketch. Created and portrayed by Julia Sweeney, the character would later star in a motion picture.

Growing up obsessed with the character, Director Rowan Haber explores personal histories and the impact of the character on today’s landscape.

What happens when traditional farming practices are lost? What might replace them? Can these new ways of living sustain us?

Ximena Garrido-Lecca’s newly commissioned installation "Seedlings" combines art and anthropology, drawing from Andean and Mesoamerican cultural associations with seeds as symbolic of life, growth, and sustenance.

At the center of the room sits a towering metal silo. Visitors are invited to take seeds from sacks and vessels around the gallery, climb the stairs to the silo, deposit them inside, and listen to the sound.

You can learn more about the exhibition at WexArts.info/SeedlingsOnView. "Seedlings" is on view through July 26.

This film sent shockwaves through the American indie film scene of the early 1990s.

In "Menace II Society," the Hughes brothers provide an uncompromising vision of life on the streets of Los Angeles. The film follows small-time dealer Caine (Tyrin Turner) as he is pulled deeper and deeper into a world of violence and hopelessness.
