For generations, Lake Theatre has been more than just a movie theatre.

It has been first dates, family traditions, Saturday matinees, blockbuster premieres, community celebrations, and countless memories shared beneath our marquee and in our auditorium. Together, we've laughed, cried, cheered, and escaped into stories that brought us closer as a community.

Today, after securing our not-for profit (501c3) status earlier this year, we are announcing the next exciting step toward ensuring the Lake Theatre remains a part of Clear Lake's future for generations to come.

After Labor Day, Lake Theatre will temporarily suspend daily operations as we begin a major capital campaign and comprehensive renovation effort. While this means our doors may be closed for a period of time, this decision is being made with one goal in mind:

๐“๐จ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐ซ๐ฏ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ข๐ฆ๐š๐ ๐ข๐ง๐ž ๐‹๐š๐ค๐ž ๐“๐ก๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ซ๐ž ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐ž๐ฑ๐ญ ๐œ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฒ.

This renovation will allow us to address critical improvements to the historic building, enhance the guest experience, modernize our facilities, and create a vibrant gathering place that honors our past while embracing the future.

We know this announcement may bring mixed emotions. Lake Theatre holds a special place in the hearts of so many, and we share the sadness of stepping away from daily operations, even if only temporarily. But we believe that focusing on both the fundraising activities and subsequent renovations will ensure that future generations can continue making memories in this iconic space.

Most importantly, this next chapter belongs to all of us.

Lake Theatre has always been sustained by the passion, generosity, and support of the community. As we embark on this journey, we invite everyone who loves Lake Theatre to become part of its future.

The lights may dim for a little while.

It's an intermission.

And when the curtain rises again, Lake Theatre will be ready to welcome everyone back and a new generation of moviegoers, patrons, families, friends, visitors, and community members through its doors.

On Friday, we were presented with our First private and generous donation from our wonderful partner, Clear Lake Bank & Trust Company towards our upcoming renovation project. Clear Lake Bank, a family owned business since 1934 is a full service bank with locations in Clear Lake, Garner, & Mason City. With the bank opening in 1934 and the Opera House converting to Lake Theatre in 1935, these two businesses have a lot of history together!
