The original fiive of us (Emily Berregaard, Rebekah Engstrom, Chance Greaves, Natasha Woods and Tia Woods) grew up going to shows in cramped basements or traveling to nearby cities in order to check out an art show, poetry reading or music event. While the communit
y of Cedar Falls is great, we felt it was lacking something. The Space was founded in order to provide a creative outlet for anyone with the will to share. What once was a cramped book store with old records and swirls of incense is now an aspiring art space and venue, run collectively by the five of us and a little help from our friends. A mere concept discussed in spring 2011 has now begun flourishing into a non-profit venue that encourages people to share their artistic talents with the community. Since opening to the public in May of 2011, The Space has functioned primarily as an art and music venue while also hosting poetry and fiction readings, clothing swaps, amateur yoga and most recently, a mix-tape exchange and potluck. While changes are constantly being made, our aim is to be a positive change for the community. We are thankful to everyone who has helped us get this far and encourage all who are interested to stop by and check us out.
