SENSE AND SENSIBILITY (PG) debuts this week at the Liberty Theatre of Camas-Washougal.
Jane Austen gets another trip to the big screen, with Daisy Edgar-Jones (TWISTERS) and Esmé Creed-Miles (HANNA) leading a fresh take on the Dashwood sisters and their tangled romantic lives, directed by Georgia Oakley (BLUE JEAN). It’s Austen by way of a modern romantic comedy, where money is tight, feelings are tighter, and “I greatly esteem him” is Regency-speak for “I have it bad for this man.” Sisterly solidarity, social maneuvering, and romantic complications are all on the menu.
Tickets $8.75 matinee before 4:55pm, Evenings $10 after 5 pm. Tuesday, all day only $7

The Maltese Falcon (1941) is one of the most popular and best classic detective mysteries ever made, and many film historians consider it the first in the dark film noir genre in Hollywood. It leaves the audience with a distinctly down-beat conclusion and bitter taste. The low-budget film reflects the remarkable directorial debut of John Huston (previously a screenwriter) who efficiently and skillfully composed and filmed this American classic for Warner Bros. studios, with great dialogue, deceitful characters, and menacing scenes.
Humphrey Bogart plays cynical San Francisco private detective Sam Spade who must clear his name after his partner is murdered, but a web of dangerous liars threatens his freedom, all while they hunt for a priceless black bird.

THE SUN NEVER SETS (R) at the Liberty Theatre of Camas-Washougal October 16-18, 21-22.
Wendy (Dakota Fanning) believes she's perfectly happy in her relationship until her older boyfriend, Jack (Jake Johnson), who is divorced with children, insists they take a break to make sure she's truly okay giving up on the idea of marriage and babies. During this time, Wendy unexpectedly runs into her ex, Chuck (Cory Michael Smith), who reignites her carefree and spontaneous side, and suddenly seems to want a family. The three of them navigate a chaotic, confusing, and often funny relationship triangle, reminding us that the pursuit of love is beautiful and messy all at once. The film was shot on 35mm on location in Alaska.
