BIRTHDAY PARTY AT HARBOR THEATER!!!!
Beth Dudley suprised her husband, Dave, with a birthday party at Harbor Theater on Sunday. About 25 friends came for cake in the lobby before the afternoon matinee. Beth also gifted Dave with his own special seat, marked with his name on a brass plaque.
Many of the seats at the theater have name plaques on them, when donors helped fund the new seats brought in by Friends of the Harbor Theater in 2008. There are still a few seats left without names on them. If you would like to have your own seat named, please contact Harbor Theater for more information. 207 633-0438.
Harbor Theater is open to all ideas from friends and supporters for birthday parties, special events, and special films. Write to [email protected] with your ideas. We are YOUR non-profit, independent theater.
Despite blowing snow, more than 140 people came to see the free showing of Lobster War on Saturday, March 2 at Harbor Theater.
The film focused on the battle developing over fishing rights around Machias Seal Island between Maine and Canadian lobstermen. Fishermen on both sides of the border want to fish in the "grey area" because of an abundance of lobsters that moved north as the Gulf of Maine warms up due to climate change.
Thanks to Nick Record of Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences for donating his time and expertise to make the screening more meaningful. The questions from the audience were thoughtful and concerned....about our warming waters in the Gulf of Maine, and climate change in general. Nick's answers were most enlightening...from birds to whales to ecology of the ocean. We are all more informed thanks to his participation. We are grateful, Nick!
And a big hug to Kim Martin for offering to donate delicious lobster bisque (spooned into dough bowls that were equally yummy), wine, cheese, chai tea....which disappeared in a minute. Once again, she outdid herself. Many thanks, Kim.
This is the first free community event this year, but we hope to do more in summer and fall. Thanks to all who attended. We appreciate your support.
Thanks to the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club, almost 300 students from Southport Central School And BRES saw SMALLFOOT at Harbor Theater on Friday. The count was 148 students from Southport and BRES at 9:30 a.m., 150 from BRES at 12 noon. All seemed to enjoy the animated film. It was a full house for both shows!
Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club is sponsoring four shows a year for local students. Harbor Theater works with teachers to show a film appropriate for the age group and with some educational message. This one was kindness, and acceptance of others.
THANK YOU, ROTARY!
