BREAKING NEWS/ IN THIS CASE "BONES BREAKING"
Dear Friends of Scandinavian Film Festival L.A. and BalticFilmExpo@SFFLA,

I could make a documentary titled “I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus.” Because indeed that’s exactly what happened to me a few days after Thanksgiving. Therefore-- due to circumstances beyond our control, the 2026 Nordic/Baltic festival scheduled for January must be postponed until “maybe” Spring or next January. For the moment all energies must be concentrated on healing broken bones, cuts and bruises.

Thank you for your continued interest in and support of the festival. In the meanwhile, I am thankful for you all, for good films, and for the airbags that saved my life. At the moment—no matter the language, the sub-title would read “Ouch!” On the gurney I kept thinking of lines from movies like "It's ALIVE!!!" and later "I'll be back!" Or "It's a wonderful life!"

NEWS!! After celebrating a joyous 25th Anniversary last year-- this year will be a hiatus year for the festival. But we will hopefully all see each other again in 2026-- to share and celebrate films and film makers from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia!
MORE NEWS: Several Nordic films and one Baltic film are shortlisted for Oscar nomination.
EVEN MORE NEWS: Remember WAY back when the Skarsgard family was at SFFLA for little brother Billy's film SIMPLE SIMON? Well, little brother Billy Skarsgard is starring in the new NOSFERATU film out now. You saw him FIRST at SFFLA!!! Congratulations Billy! And don't worry-- there will be more discoveries and more funding. If you are connected to a Nordic or Baltic country, let your consulate know that you want them to support SFFLA!

SFFLA original volunteer coordinator, Soren Hellerup is in the cast of this series which just won "Best television series" in top Portuguese awards! Kudos Soren!!! (I swear-- what people won't do to get out of volunteering!) All kidding aside, SFFLA loves you, Soren! Congratulations on this and MANY other big scores! SFFLA's proud of you! Congratulations Lasse Lyskjaer Noer and Producer Kim Magnussen for their nomination-- not a first for Kim Magnussen who had shorts nominated in the first year of SFFLA and in the 25th year! Denmark has a new King-- and the Magnussen name can be counted as Danish film royalty!

Congratulations to Kim Magnussen and Director Lasse Lyskjaer Noer for Oscar nomination for Knight of Fortune for Live Action Short!!! This isn't the first nomination for Kim-- maybe it's time for a retrospective. The first year of SFFLA and the 25th year-- Oscar nominations! That's quite a legacy of developing, supporting, producing talented film makers to the scene. Denmark has a new King-- but it's obvious the Magnussen name can be counted as Danish film royalty.BTW Kim was at the first SFFLA and other times as well-- and so was his father Tivi Magnussen.

ANOTHER (JAN 20, 21)SATURDAY AND SUNDAY OF SINTILLATING CINEMA IS COMING UP THIS WEEK-END AT THE 25 ANNIVERSARY SCANDINAVIAN FILM FESTIVAL L.A. WITH BALTICFILMEXPO@SFFLA--- The festival had a great opening weekend last week and looks forward to another great weekend of "Top films from the top of Europe." Check out the schedule www.sffla.net Sunday evening, closing screening of the festival will be Danish comedy THE CAKE DYNASTY! Festival Founder/Director James Koenig says "Great Nordic and Baltic films can be dark. We've sometimes laughed that we're the festival that offers prozac instead of popcorn. But for our 25th Anniversary-- we'll go out with some good laughs-- and cake!"
