Monthly film series showcasing classic horror and sci-fi films of the past. Join us every 3rd Saturday at the Historic Masonic Temple in Bay City, when we show movies that range from hilarious to terrifying. Admission is a mere $2!

Time for some more Monstrous fun facts about our upcoming movie, 1954's CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON!

Julie Adams did most of her own stunts in the film, including swimming in frigid water. She said that the filming process was "extremely pleasant" and that the cast and crew got along quite well. She was sympathetic toward the monster, noting:
"I think maybe it touches something in ourselves, maybe the darker parts of ourselves, that long to be loved and think they really can't ever be loved. It strikes a chord within us."

Jack Arnold also directed many episodes of The Brady Bunch. In S2E3 "The Slumber Caper," Bobby Brady wears a Creature mask when the boys crash the girls' slumber party.

Director Jack Arnold claimed that his main goal in the making of this film was to create a sense of dread. Arnold said, "it plays upon a basic fear that people have about what might be lurking below the surface of any body of water. You know the feeling when you are swimming and something brushes your legs down there - it scares the hell out of you if you don't know what it is. It's the fear of the unknown. I decided to exploit this fear as much as possible."

Time for some Monstrous fun facts about our upcoming movie, 1954's CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON!

The "Gill-man" suit was designed without an air tank, as the director refused to have bubbles come out of the creature's nose and mouth. That means that Ricou Browning, a professional diver and stuntman, had to hold his breath for up to 4 minutes for some shots.
