We want to hear your stories!
From fall of 2023 through spring of 2024 we got to hear them all the time; it was one of our favorite parts of operating this historic cinema! Now we're asking you to share them with us again!!! We loved to hear how this cinema made a difference in your lives in this community for the past 75 years! And if we weren't hearing stories about the cinema itself, we loved to talk to you about films of the last century, the stories behind them, and how they impacted your lives!
Being a part of this cinema, we've also had the privilege to learn about the incredible man who was passionate about film during the birth of the industry, and was a trailblazer in our community to establish the first cinemas for those who lived here to witness the very first films Hollywood was producing!
This year we had planned a big 75th Birthday bash! While we may not be able to show all of the titles from 1950 on the big screen we had wanted, we would still love to fulfill this project for the community: to compile the stories and photos you have together and make available for everyone! We heard so many! From the man who grew up with his father recalling the grand opening, and as a teen in the 50s would sneak in through the bathroom window, to our health inspector who recalled attending a film with his father in the 60s when the projectionist was having a bad day and just couldn't play the reels in the correct order (it took almost 4 hours to get through their film that day!), to the woman who worked the concession counter in the 80s and remembers the craze just down the road when Kevin Bacon was in town to film Footloose, to the man who lived behind the cinema and walked over every day the summer Little Mermaid was released, watching it 60 times, and was thrilled to now show the film on the same screen to his tween son....this cinema is a part of you, and we want to hear about it!!!
With this cinema still disconnected from the city's power grid, it is more important than ever before to compile your stories and photos together to make them available to everyone!
