The animated short film “Terminal”, directed by Alexandre Siqueira, has been selected for the Short Cuts Competition at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it will celebrate its world premiere. The film follows Siqueira’s acclaimed animated short “Purpleboy” and is a co-production between BAP Animation Studios (Portugal), Studio Kimchi (Spain), and XBO Films (France). With this selection, Terminal joins one of the world’s most prestigious stages for cinema, reinforcing the presence of Portuguese cinema on the international scene and reflecting the growing recognition of Portuguese animation at major international film festivals. The 51st edition of the festival will take place from September 10 to 20, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.

[PT] A curta-metragem de animação “Terminal”, de Alexandre Siqueira, integra a competição Short Cuts da 51.ª edição do Festival Internacional de Cinema de Toronto (TIFF), onde terá a sua estreia mundial. O filme sucede à aclamada curta de animação “Purpleboy” e é uma coprodução entre a BAP Animation Studios (Portugal), Studio Kimchi (Espanha) e XBO Films (França). Com esta seleção, Terminal integra um dos mais prestigiados palcos do cinema mundial, reforçando a presença do cinema português no panorama internacional e refletindo o crescente reconhecimento da animação portuguesa nos principais festivais internacionais. A 51.ª edição do festival decorre entre 10 e 20 de setembro de 2026, na cidade de Toronto, Canadá.

The short film “Amarelo Banana”, directed by Alexandre Sousa, has been selected for the official programme of the BEAST International Film Festival. Selected for the Official Competition, the film will premiere in the city of Porto at a festival dedicated to promoting emerging filmmakers from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Portuguese filmmakers working abroad. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 9th edition, taking place from June 3rd to 7th.

[𝗣𝗧] A curta-metragem “Amarelo Banana”, de Alexandre Sousa, integra a seleção oficial do BEAST – Festival de Cinema da Europa Central e de Leste. Selecionado para a Competição Oficial, o filme estreia-se na cidade do Porto num festival que se destaca pela promoção de cineastas emergentes da Europa Central e de Leste, bem como de realizadores portugueses a trabalhar no estrangeiro. Em 2026, o festival celebra a sua 9.ª edição, que decorrerá entre 3 e 7 de junho.

Pedro Serrazina’s short film “Tale About The Cat And The Moon” celebrated on May 15th the 30th anniversary of its international premiere at the 49th Festival de Cannes. “I recently returned to the festival and found it on an even bigger scale — much bigger — but I still remember the privilege of those first moments. The amazement of seeing the film projected on what felt like a massive screen, with an image and sound quality that, nostalgically, I feel I never experienced again,” recalls Serrazina about the premiere of his first film on the French Riviera. Following the release of a special edition dedicated to the film at Batalha Centro de Cinema, “Tale About The Cat And The Moon” will return to the big screen at the 34th Vila do Conde International Film Festival in an expanded version, accompanied by a new live soundtrack composed and performed by Mão Morta Redux. The film-concert will also feature “The Eyes Of The Lighthouse” and “Shadows of Ourselves”.

[𝗣𝗧] A curta-metragem “Estória do Gato e da Lua”, de Pedro Serrazina, assinalou no passado dia 15 de maio os 30 anos da sua estreia internacional na 49.ª edição do Festival de Cannes. “Recentemente voltei ao festival e encontrei-o numa escala ainda maior — muito maior —, mas não esqueço o encanto daqueles momentos originais. O deslumbramento de ver o filme projetado num ecrã que me parecia enorme, com uma qualidade de imagem e som que acho, nostalgicamente, nunca voltei a encontrar”, recorda Pedro Serrazina sobre a estreia do seu primeiro filme na Riviera Francesa. Após o lançamento de uma edição especial dedicada ao filme no Batalha Centro de Cinema, “Estória do Gato e da Lua” regressará ao grande ecrã no 34.º Curtas Vila do Conde – Festival Internacional de Cinema, numa versão expandida acompanhada por uma nova sonoplastia original composta e interpretada ao vivo pelos Mão Morta Redux. O cineconcerto incluirá ainda os filmes “Os Olhos do Farol” e “Sombras de Nós Próprios”.

The films “Dog Alone”, directed by Marta Reis Andrade, and “The Long Legged Man”, by Vitor Hugo, have been selected for the official selection of the Melbourne International Animation Festival. Selected for the International Competition, “The Long Legged Man” will have its Australian premiere in the ninth programme, Character Studies, while “Dog Alone” is included in the seventh programme, Darker Visions. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 26th edition, taking place from May 17th to 24th at The Backlot Studios, in Melbourne.

[𝗣𝗧] Os filmes “Cão Sozinho”, de Marta Reis Andrade, e “O Homem das Pernas Altas”, de Vítor Hugo, integram a seleção oficial do MIAF – Festival Internacional de Cinema de Animação de Melbourne. Selecionado para a Competição Internacional, “O Homem das Pernas Altas” terá a sua estreia australiana no nono programa da competição, intitulado Character Studies, enquanto “Cão Sozinho” integra o sétimo programa, Darker Visions. O festival assinala, em 2026, a sua 26.ª edição, decorrendo entre 17 e 24 de maio, no The Backlot Studios, em Melbourne.

The films “Three of Cups”, directed by Mário Macedo and Enotea, and “Dog Alone”, by Marta Reis Andrade, have been selected for the official programme of the Vienna Shorts – International Short Film Festival. A Danish-Portuguese co-production between Morph Films (Denmark) and Olhar de Ulisses (Portugal), “Three of Cups” will have its international premiere in the “Everyday Dreaming Of Everyday” programme, while “Dog Alone” will make its Austrian premiere in the “Taking Care Of Each Other” session. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 23rd edition, taking place from May 26th to 31st in Vienna.

As curtas-metragens “Vermelhos do Asfalto”, de João Niza Ribeiro, e “Cão Sozinho”, de Marta Reis Andrade, integram a seleção oficial do Festival de Cinema de Cracóvia. O novo de filme de João Niza Ribeiro terá a sua estreia mundial no programa de curtas-metragens internacionais, enquanto o filme de Marta Reis Andrade fará, na mesma secção, a sua estreia na Polónia. Em 2026, o festival celebra a sua 66.ª edição, que decorrerá entre 31 de maio e 7 de junho na cidade de Cracóvia, com sessões presenciais e também online, através da sua plataforma de streaming, entre 5 e 19 de junho.

[𝗘𝗡] The short films “Asphalt Reds”, directed by João Niza Ribeiro, and “Dog Alone”, by Marta Reis Andrade, have been selected for the official programme of the Krákow Film Festival. The new film by João Niza Ribeiro will have its world premiere in the international short film programme, while Marta Reis Andrade’s film will have its Polish premiere in the same section. In 2026, the festival celebrates its 66th edition, taking place from May 31st to June 7th in Krakow, with in-person screenings and an online programme available on its streaming platform from June 5th to 19th.

Os filmes “Amarelo Banana”, de Alexandre Sousa, “Cão Sozinho”, de Marta Reis Andrade, e “Porque Hoje é Sábado”, de Alice Eça Guimarães, estão nomeados para Melhor Curta-Metragem de Animação nos Prémios Sophia. Em 2026, a Academia Portuguesa de Cinema promove a 15.ª edição destes prémios, dedicados às melhores produções do cinema nacional, sob o tema “Projetar o presente, imaginar o futuro”. Os vencedores serão anunciados na cerimónia de entrega de prémios, a 15 de maio, no Centro Cultural de Belém, com transmissão em direto na RTP2.

[𝗘𝗡] The films “Amarelo Banana”, directed by Alexandre Sousa, “Dog Alone”, by Marta Reis Andrade, and “Because Today is Saturday”, by Alice Eça Guimarães, have been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Sophia Awards. In 2026, the APC – Portuguese Film Academy presents the 15th edition of the awards, dedicated to the best in Portuguese cinema, under the theme “Projecting the present, imagining the future.” Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on May 15th, at the Belém Cultural Center, with a live broadcast on RTP2.
