Awni Al-Dous was only 12 years old, but he already had a dream: to grow his YouTube channel to 100,000 subscribers. Last year, he celebrated reaching 1,000 subscribers with the kind of pure excitement only a child chasing a dream can show.

That makes what happened next even harder to process. Awni was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza, and a young life filled with plans, creativity, and hope was suddenly gone.

For me, this is the part of war that should never become just another statistic. Behind every number is a person with a family, a future, and dreams they were still trying to reach.

Watching an old moment of Awni celebrating 1,000 subscribers now carries a completely different weight. Whatever our politics may be, children deserve the chance to grow up, dream bigger, and live long enough to see what those dreams can become.

In 2023, Gaza’s northern coastline was a densely populated stretch of neighborhoods, homes, schools, markets, and seaside communities overlooking the Mediterranean. By 2026, vast parts of the same area had been reduced to fields of rubble after repeated Israeli military operations. Entire residential blocks disappeared, critical infrastructure was devastated, and hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced, many multiple times. Satellite imagery and reports from international organizations have documented the scale of the destruction, showing a landscape that is barely recognizable compared with just a few years earlier.

The images raise a difficult question: how should history remember the transformation of an entire urban landscape and the immense human suffering that accompanied it? Whether one describes it as a war, collective punishment, ethnic cleansing, or genocide—a term that is the subject of ongoing international legal proceedings—the destruction is undeniable. Compare 2023 with 2026, and ask yourself: what does rebuilding a place like this even begin to look like?

وہ تمہیں یہ درس دیتے ہیں کہ اسلحہ، جہاد، قتال اور فلسطین کی آزادی کی بات کرنے والا ہر شخص دہشت گرد ہے۔ وہ تمہیں یہ باور کراتے ہیں کہ سنت کے مطابق حلیہ اور لباس اختیار کرنے والا بھی دہشت گرد ہے۔ مگر خود اپنی کارروائیوں پر انہیں کوئی شرم محسوس نہیں ہوتی۔ وہ بمباری بھی کرتے ہیں، ہماری خواتین اور بچوں پر ہر طرح کے مظالم بھی ڈھاتے ہیں، اور انہیں بے دردی سے قتل بھی کرتے ہیں، لیکن اپنی ان کارروائیوں کو جرم تسلیم نہیں کرتے۔
جرم چھوڑو.. وہ تو فخر کرتے ہیں، انکے بچے، انکے جوان انکی خواتین اپنا مذہبی فریضہ سمجھ کر جوش و خروش سے اسے ادا کرتے ہیں..

میں غزہ ہوں... میں فلسطین ہوں... میں آج بھی تنہا ہوں۔

میرے تقریباً دو ارب سے زیادہ مسلمان بہن بھائی ہیں، مگر پھر بھی میری آہیں سننے والے بہت کم ہیں۔ میری ماؤں کے آنسو، میرے بچوں کی سسکیاں، اور میرے شہداء کا خون آج بھی انسانیت کو پکار رہا ہے۔

آخر کب جاگیں گے میرے مسلمان بہن بھائی؟ کب میرے درد کو اپنا درد سمجھیں گے؟ کب میرے لیے اپنی دعاؤں، اپنی آواز اور اپنے ضمیر کو زندہ کریں گے؟

اے اللہ! فلسطین کے مظلوموں کی مدد فرما، ان کی حفاظت فرما، اور پوری امت کو حق کے ساتھ کھڑے ہونے کی توفیق عطا فرما۔ آمین۔

More than 1,000 days have passed, but we haven’t forgotten. This little child in my illustration represents the children in Palest!ne who deserve to grow up in peace, surrounded by love, not fear. Their suffering is real. While we may not be able to take their pain away, we can choose not to stay silent. We can keep raising our voices, keep talking about Palest!ne, and keep making dua’a for them.🇵🇸 May Allah protect every child, comfort every grieving heart, and bring peace, safety, and freedom to Palest!ne✊🏽
