In rural Pakistan 10% of young women are unemployed. IFAD and the Government of Punjab through the SPPAP project have been investing in training and loans for over 10,000 women so they can start their own businesses.
Rumna set up a beauty business, Shelana and Ishra have set up their own embroidery clinic and Naha received training in computing and is now a digital marketeer. Not only are they gaining employment but are providing much needed jobs and local services to rural communities.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is the only international financial institution exclusively focused on transforming rural economies. IFAD invests in rural people and their communities, building food security, shared prosperity and stability. Today, IFAD and its partners have nearly US$23 billion invested in ongoing projects that are transforming rural economies.
