Straight from the airport, with just a quick breakfast in between, a family of four from San Ramon, California flew in at 6am and proceeded to Rizal Park to serve as volunteers in Day 9 of the MR Kiddie Paskuhan. Still jetlagged, Cherie & Ray Woo with sons Zach and Evan made popcorn for, and applied tattoos and face paint on, children from the communities of Tatalon and Rizal Park street children.
Another set of volunteers came all the way from Villasis, Pangasinan not just as part sponsors of the party but also to volunteer. Elvie and Jimmy Abordo, a balikbayan retired couple from New York, ended up serving party treats, manning the tattoo booth and giving out the loot bags to KP kids.
Volunteers from the Mother of Jesus Chorus from the Sto. Domingo Church QC led by Christina Maglaque also came and served in KP Day 9. The group, a religious youth organization, also donated C2 and Bread Pan treats to add to the loot bags.
What drives these individuals is the desire to spread Christmas cheer to children who need it most.
Says Elvie Abordo, “We had a great time mingling with the kids representing the donors who belong to our BLD ME Class #10 of Bukas Loob sa Diyos NY Rockland Community. They have expressed commitment to double our donation next year so we can sponsor more kids and see their smiles to this annual Kiddie Paskuhan sa Rizal Park. A very humbling experience indeed!”
KP kids for Day 9 also enjoyed Vitamin C donations from Messy Bessy.
The annual Kiddie Paskuhan event organized by Mabuhay Restop, now in its 5th year, creates opportunities for meaningful interactions as a way to spread Christmas cheer to less privileged children. KP 2018 is in partnership with the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC).
