Growing up with a cinephile for a parent, local cinema practically raised me...I’ll never forget watching Jackie Lou Blanco play Trixie in the 1993 classic Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo. She was the ultimate third party, but what made her so memorable was that beneath all the dramatic antagonism, Trixie was really just a broken girl making terrible choices while searching for a father’s love.
Fast forward years after watching her command the screen, I actually got to sit down with her last August 10 at EDSA Shangri-La. We spent time catching up on her shift to the theater stage, what it really takes to stay fully committed to a character, and her deep passion for Philippine arts and cinema.
Catch Mag-iina (The Mothering), written by Guelan Varela-Luarca and directed by Giancarlo Abrahan, starring Janine Gutierrez, Cherry Pie Picache, Agot Isidro, and Jackie Lou Blanco. The story follows a daughter coming back to her old family home, where generations of women are left dealing with grief, broken relationships, and secrets that have been buried for way too long. It’s an intense, deeply emotional look at love and the heavy weight of family legacy. Now showing in select cinemas nationwide!
